YEMI ALADE APPOINTED GOODWILL AMBASSADOR FOR UNITED NATIONS DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME

Having risen to the top of a male-dominated industry, Nigerian singer-songwriter Yemi Alade was today appointed Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

Kicking off her new role as the COVID-19 pandemic surges around the world, Alade will help shine a spotlight on the disproportionate impact of the health and socio-economic crisis on the poorest and most vulnerable people, who are often women, especially in developing nations.

“Women are among the 4 billion people who are trying to survive COVID-19 without any form of social protection,” said Alade. “I want to lend my voice to these women and other vulnerable people who make up half of the world that’s struggling to make ends meet. They don’t have the luxury of working from home and are putting their health at risk just to put food on the table.”

“But as we address poverty and inequality in our COVID-19 recovery plans, we can’t put climate change on the back burner,” Alade said. “Climate change and poverty go hand-in-hand, and neither is gender-neutral. Women in developing countries, such as my homeland Nigeria, are disproportionately affected by both.”

Alade was appointed UNDP’s latest Goodwill Ambassador by UNDP Administrator Achim Steiner.

There are 51 official cities in England and the list of these places have been granted city status by letters patent or royal character.

In the last two decades I have had the opportunity to visit over 30 Countries around the world but I have also had the opportunity to visit 40 of the 51 Official cities of England

There is always something profound that makes cities stand out, it could be the history, the architecture, the sceneries, the diversity of people, its identity or even simple things like the thoughts and emotions we feel when we embrace the new walls of a city.

Have you ever travelled to a new place and felt you are in familiar territory?

Travelling opens our minds into a new world of history, culture, experiences and a new transition of growth.

NEWCASTLE is one of the 51 Official cities I have visited in England

FIVE GOOD REASONS TO VISIT NEWCASTLE

  1. Newcastle is situated in north east of England and is the most populous city of the North East. I have visited this City many times and it has a lot of iconic sights, great architecture, statues and a refreshing feel that is quite unique. It also has a lot of art and culture, there are lots of great sceneries on the outskirts as well as beeches, coastlines and countryside.
  2. The people are part of reasons that make up a great city and the Geordies have a friendly and easy-going spirit. They also love to party, so this is a great place to put on your bucket list if you fancy something different and refreshing.
  3. It is easy to navigate this City on foot as it perfectly formed and organized, alternatively you can also take advantage of the Metro System.
  4. Newcastle also has some very interesting landmarks and buildings that are worth discovering.  The Newcastle 12th Century castle is an amazing site with some breath-taking views across the City, you cannot also afford to miss Anthony Gomleys iconic angel of the North statue in Gateshead

FIVE GOOD REASONS TO VISIT MANCHESTER

  1. I have visited Manchester so many times and there is no doubt that Manchester attracts visitors and tourists from all over the world. In recent years it has become so popular that many people in London, The South of England and The Midlands have relocated to this region and power-house of the north to make the most of the opportunities as well the choices available with regards to quality of Life. Although Manchester is not one of my favorite cities in the North of England, it is definitely an amazing city with a vast range of opportunities and a great place to relocate if you have had enough of London.
  2. Manchester also has a great and very varied nightlife with a wide range of music scenes and options for people of all ages.  Every night of the week, you will find something exciting with a wide range of preferences from local gigs, urban dance halls, raves, open mics and so much more.

LIVERPOOL is one of the 51 Official cities I have visited in England

FIVE GOOD REASONS TO VISIT LIVERPOOL

  1. Liverpool is the home of the world-famous International Slavery Museum.  I had the opportunity to visit this Museum at the Albert docks in Liverpool several years ago and I was overwhelmed with emotion.  The International Slavery Museum is definitely a site that every person of colour living in the UK should take time to visit in their lifetime. It covers the untold emotional stories of enslaved people. There is also a section about life and culture in West Africa before the Atlantic Slave trade.

FIVE GOOD REASONS TO VISIT HULL

  1. Hulls independence and proud municipal history are symbolized by whited phone boxes  dotted around the City and its vicinities. It still has the only locally operated telephone company in the UK which says a lot about the Citys Independence and individuality. I have visited this city a few times and have been impressed with a few developments over the years.
  2.  Hull has lots of free museums doted around the City which is also a reflection of its rich and controversial history.  The Wilberforce museum (with links to slavery) can also be found in Hull.
  3. Hull was named The UK City of Culture in 2017 and has gone through lots of developments in the last two decades.
  4. The Humber bridge can also be found in the region of Hull. It held the record for the worlds longest suspension bridge for 16 year
