POETRY CORNER “THERE WE LIVE” WRITTEN BY MESIOYE AFFABLE JOHNSON

There we live sleeping on compiled worries
at night with our flesh peeling on wild floor.
The costly rags we wear tells sad stories
on the wretched tales stuck behind our naked door.

There, our dying souls shrink in hopelessness,
for we have nothing but roof which is the bridge.
Best lagacy exposely caged in our helplessness,
maybe alms would one day free her from the bondage.

For breakfast, our bare feet must sweep the Earth,
With neasous basins in our hands to bin
where remnants remains our hope right from birth,
As penury vows being our new next of kin.

For survival we eat our wards’ morrow.
For meat we slug it out for dog’s best meal,
Where fathers pass away leaving nothing but sorrow
behind,as mothers of five now nurse just one for real!

The whiff oozing grief from our wet handpits,
Is like one from where we do get our breakfast
As our babies under the blind sun stand fit,
Crying over the sick milk on our bereaved fleshy mast.

Our breathing skins are dying enjoying suffering,
As flies celebrate the fate we carry
With lices that lies in our hairs, crawling,
Breeding plight on our ragged skulls as pally.

What, who shall wipe our itching inner tears
with the scars whose healing hour is unknown?
Do we continue chasing flashy mean cars
only waving to our tumbling sprints with faint horn?

Now that the breeze has exposed our shy shelter
And sons die slowly on the stance of no medication,
Rapists lick our daughters’ thighs as we drink hunger,
For possibility of living keeps hanging on fridays’ portion!

How I wish you could see what today wrote on our tainted faces,
With impoverished ink from faint clearer vision,
Despite the blur morrow we wear on hope like lace,
Will death still claim to be the agent of correction?

But forget not that the tears filling these innocent bowls,
Shall slip your blood and body into hell,
There, our plight shall be one cent of thy growls,
And raised to the power of lives you made to yell!

Which way forward?

POETRY CORNER- “BLANK VERSE” WRITTEN BY UTHMAN ODESON AHMADU

BLANK VERSE

“I embraced poetry
Sneaking stealthily
Through imposiblities
Making them possible”

“I have met
Talking walking shelves
Kicking dusts
In a painful protest
Speaking greek in Greece”

“Their voice
Collapsed in hand
Waiting to build
Hajj in Nigeria”

“Please plead
With pleasure
To tarry this treasures
Also to
Clatter the cliche
And clank it clear”

“The silent echoes
makes the
free furrow to follow
freedom”

NIGERIA AND THE WAY FORWARD- WE ALL HAVE A ROLE TO PLAY – BY TONY TOKUNBO ETEKA FERNANDEZ

NIGERIA AND THE WAY FORWARD- WE ALL HAVE A ROLE TO PLAY

Today marks the birth of a historical celebration in the most populous black nation in the world and Africa,s biggest economy.

President Muhammed Buhari will be sworn in as The new president of The Federal Republic of Nigeria – We wish him the very best as he steps into office.

In the last six months, three major thoughts have intrigued me repeatedly with regards to the political scene and the mindsets of many of our wonderful patriots from different regions

1. The bitter and warlike rivalry between political parties and the absurd stereotypes and comments opposing parties make about one another – as if everyone that belongs to a party comes from the same mother.

Parties are just like other institutions of Life – you have the good, the bad and the ugly.

2. The will and creative ease at which we easily criticize systems, governments and leaders – forgetting that we all have a sense of ownership in the role of nation building – and many times, WE are as bad or good as our leaders – words are easy.
What are we actually doing in our everyday life to make a difference and impact peoples lives?

3. The thought and belief that NIGERIA needs a saviour – What we need is a Leader and not a Ruler- but we also need to lead and save as what we do everyday adds value to the bigger picture.

J. F Kennedy wants said “ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country”

I try and visit Nigeria every year, one of the things which impresses me the most is the zeal, the hunger and the passion of A PEOPLE who get on with Life, rather than sitting on the fence and blaming the system.

Each time we aspire and achieve great things in LIFE – we not only bring PRIDE to our families and friends- We bring pride to our Nation

WHAT ARE YOU AND I DOING TODAY TO MAKE TOMORROW BETTER?

As the mantle of hope unfolds into a new phase of manifestations – We not only pray for Nigeria, but we also put more effort in taking part in the colourful dance and the loud energy of change.

LONG LIVE NIGERIA

HAVE YOU VISITED THE WHITE LION IN STREATHAM? A LEADING COMMUNITY ARTS AND MUSIC HUB- THE DIFFERENCE IS CLEAR

How much do you know about “The White Lion” in Streatham?

The Wihte Lion is a unique community arts and music hub located in the heart of South London serving great food with wonderful vibes

In September 2009 we found this large Victorian building on the well-connected Streatham High Road. It was run-down, unsellable, and deserted. Our team had absolutely no budget but, with volunteers, donated materials and community spirit, we transformed the complex into a community hub.

Featuring a fantastic bar, an enclosed beer garden and a renovated workshop space, the venue now has live music most evenings as well as a growing community presence. Recent awards for The White Lion include:

  • “Best Live Music Venue for Heartfelt Happenings” (Lambeth Weekender, October 2011)
  • “Favourite Shop on the High Street” (ShopInStreatham.com “People’s Choice” competition, December 2011)
  • Finalist for “Lambeth’s Favourite Business” (2012 Lambeth Business Awards, April 2012)

The venue’s constantly evolving has something to offer- every day of the week. However, to experience it properly you really should PAY US A VISIT!
