Ibim Banigo Fapohunda – Former Director, Save The Woman

Ibim is an international Engineering Management professional driven by her passion to contribute to the betterment of lives around her and empower people to build a sustainable future for themselves – through health, education, public administration, infrastructure, trade and such like development initiatives.

From her institutional appointment in 2007 as International Students Officer at the University of Birmingham to her Sub-Saharan Business Development corporate assignment from 2012 to 2017, Ibim has actively participated in social development initiatives in the UK and across several second and third world territories.

Ibim describes some of her most memorable life experiences from 2008 to date as the opportunity to be part of overseas missions teams in Eastern Africa and Eastern Europe – building homes for families, teaching school children, working in household farms and living with local families during these missions were remarkable experiences that resonates greatly with Ibim’s passion to impact lives.

Ibim held the position of Chair and Member of Save the Woman’s Board of Trustees from 2017 to 2019.

Currently, alongside her role since 2010 as a UK Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics ‘STEM’ Ambassador – actively educating children and young people of the vital roles STEM play in our world; Ibim holds the position of Non-Exec Director of This Is Us ‘TIU’ UK – a UK non-profit organization aimed at collaborating with communities to practically address health and social issues affecting young people, thus enabling the realization of their full potential as future world changers.

Kingsley is a political strategist, equality champion and anti-corruption campaigner. 

Kingsley was a student union representative who spent his life fighting for equality and fairness. After graduating from Accounting with a first degree, Kingsley worked in both the public and private sector. 

Kingsley went abroad to study in Finland and after he graduated he relocated to the United Kingdom. Kingsley worked in both the private and public sector in the UK.  

Kingsley also went back to the university of Sunderland where he studied MSc in Project Management where he obtained Distinction. 

Kingsley is the Co-founder, Young African Voices.

Mr Monir Arimoku will be a guest speaker at the pro-Covid 19 Business orientation and Financial Skills initiative organized by The Nigerians in Diaspora Organuization, Egypt Chapter taking place this Friday- the 22nd of May at 4.30pm Cairo time.

Monir Arimoku is of Nigerian and Egyptian parentage.  He is a business partner at Harleys Food ltd and has many years experience working in several business industries.

He was previously the head of business development at R Holding  (The UK and The middle east) and also has knowledge and experience in business development, project planning, real estate and various other areas
He studied civil engineering at The University College London
Monir is well traveled and has a huge passion for Life, people and places

Muna is a lecturer of Psychology in Education, based in the Department of Education, Childhood and Inclusion. She teaches and supervises dissertations on a number of undergraduate and postgraduate education courses. She is also a supervisor on the Education Doctorate programme.

Her main areas of research include ‘race’/ racism in education, diaspora identities, belonging, community engagement and youth culture. Her research utilises Critical Race, Postcolonial and Black feminist frameworks to explore racialized and gendered inequalities in education.

She has a keen interest in innovative research methodologies; namely decolonial narrative and participatory action research, with particular attention paid to the ethical challenges of doing decolonial research.

Alongside her academic post Muna works closely with local government, schools, colleges and youth services to help support work that tackles institutional racism, youth (dis)engagement, young people’s emotional health and wellbeing needs, and community engagement. Part of her external work includes being a trustee of Astrea Academy, a multi-academy schools Trust.

Muna is a member of a number of networks. Within the university she is member of the Race Staff Network and the BME staff and student forum.

External affiliations include: British Educational Research Association (BERA), the Black British Academics (BBA) and the Critical Race and Ethnicities Network (CREN).

Monday 27^th April 2020

On 16^th March (2020) I started isolating,

to protect myself from Coronavirus cross infection.

This unprecedented lock down opened doors for me all around.

Some of these I’ll relate but others I’ll unfold on another date.

I’m busier now than I’ve been before, doing things I’ve not done of yore.

Every day after ablution I meditate, then follow the daily routine I create

I exercise and deep breathe too,

Tai Chi practice, I regularly do.

Daily I walk 1000 steps or more,

circling around from my front door to my back door

or I’ll go up and downstairs 35 times, while singing musical rhymes

I’ve scanned my address book and diary, and using social media successfully,

networked with friends and family, while reaching out to those who’re lonely.

I’ve invented culinary delights, like orange peel tea & green-banana skin bites.

The weather has been fairly good, so I’m enjoying things in my ‘hood’,

I see the difference between a wasp and a bee

and listen to birds singing in the nearby tree.

My creative juices have been stimulated

and lots more poems I’ve created.

I’ve written a short autobiography, for the magazine, ‘People in Harmony’.

Three on-line courses I’ve completed and Mindfulness I have repeated.

I’ve learnt to compress a massive file, and change Microsoft word to a PDF file.

My piano key board I’ve rediscovered for years it laid undisturbed.

I’ve now started once more to play, a little tune each day

I’ve discovered who cares about me,

these are my son, William and his family,

and Mandy, Ruth, Vesna and Valerie,

who religiously do my shopping for me.

Others bring joy and show kindness to me, by demonstrating their loyalty.

There’s Nagina my ‘adopted’ daughter who has the most wonderful nature

she shines with a beautiful aura.

I adhere to six feet distancing and remain in social isolation.

I don’t touch my grandchildren physically,

but bed-time stories I tell them electronically.

I sing and dance with on line training, and Mr. Motivator exercising

My perceptions are more aware and I smell and breathe fresher air

With a sip of honeyed lemon tea, the melodious pigeon coos I hear.

The rays of the sun are warm on my skin, as the vitamin “D” in my pelt sinks in.

The sky is clearer now at night and I see myriads of   stars shining bright.

Numerous clouds are visible during the day

Some whose names I can barely say.

There’s cumulus billowing by

Or nimbostratus darkening the sky,

Life’s not too bad for me, in this shutdown society.
