HOW MUCH DO YOU KNOW ABOUT LUKE POTTAGE? NOMINEE FOR OUR AFRICA4U & SAVE THE WOMAN AWARDS

Luke Pottage – Teesside University Graduate
Luke studied at Teesside University, graduated with a first-class honours degree in Business Management in 2018. During his studies, he took an active role in a project with County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service to address the fight for equality that women  are facing in the fire and rescue services industry.

The experiences that Luke gained  throughout this project fuelled his desire to promote equality in whatever way possible.
In 2019, Luke was given the opportunity to return to Teesside University for three months as  a Graduate Intern in the Student Recruitment & Marketing department. In his first week,  Luke met with the CEO of Save The Woman. Following this meeting, Luke helped to organise  the Commonwealth for Africa 2019 event held on the final day of Luke’s internship. Despite  leaving the University, Luke remains in contact with the Save the Woman and is a supporter  of the Teesside African and African Caribbean Network events and what they stand for.
Currently, Luke works in finance in a young, growing company called Para-Sols. Para-Sols’ employees come from a wide variety of backgrounds and are doing their bit to improve the  future of financial services, one step at a time.

An Instinctive Journey through Time and Space on a Path to Find Place

My work is defined by markings as a process of visual expression. In repetitions and in colours, these markings form a pattern or language as a way of understanding emotion and body in space.

These new works explore the narrative of markings around various themes which explore ‘Markings’ as: scarification, identity, paths, journeys, body in space,  energy;  all occupying space.

About the Artist:

Farouk Adegboyega Agoro is an artist and architect based in Brixton, London. Originally born and raised in Lagos, Nigeria to a Nigerian father and Jamaican mother, he moved to England as a young teenager to attend school. Farouk’s parents studied in the USA in the 1960-70s before returning to Nigeria to settle and he was greatly influenced by their music, art and literature collections from that period.  His father, now a retired town planner, was always sketching and doodling while his mother, a retired pharmacist, is still very crafty – crocheting, sewing, making dolls, quilts, bags etc… Farouk was surrounded by a lot of creativity which guided him towards him pursuing architecture as a career.

He has been working as an architect for over 12 years and has been painting on and off during that period. With a desire to pursue other creative projects, he decided to divert more attention in the past three years to his passion for painting as a form of expression.

The difference between LinkedIn & Facebook – by Oscar Bimpong

Difference Between LinkedIn and Facebook

These two are social media sites but they operate differently.

The following are my own opinionated differences and advise on how to manage the two platforms.

1. LinkedIn is designed for professionals and business entities to dialogue and share ideas and experiences whilst Facebook is designed to connect people to share their social experiences.

2. Your profile on Linkedin must be strictly professional whilst Facebook can be casual. For example your profile picture must be professional on LinkedIn and can be casual on Facebook.

3. You have to fill your bio in full on LinkedIn but on Facebook you can choose not to.

4. On Facebook, you can post anything but on LinkedIn, you have to be strategic.

5. Facebook is an open space for the educated and the uneducated whilst LinkedIn is strictly for professionals pursuing a career or an entrepreneur.

6. Limit the posting of social issues on LinkedIn as compared to Facebook and post things that are relevant to a professional life.

7. The class of people on LinkedIn are highly educated as compared to Facebook.

8. Whatever you post and comment on linkedIn must strictly be educational.

9. Don’t use short hand on LinkedIn. Write words and sentences in full to make sense to the other professional reading it.

10. Lastly, separate your professional life from your social life and know how to manage these two huge platforms to your advantage.

I will therefore want to reiterate the fact that, you must know how to operate these two platforms. Understanding how the two works can be an asset to drive your vision to these two ecosystems.

Success is based on knowledge. Learn to seek knowledge.

Thanks and have a blessed week.
