Black History | About the Founder – Mr Phil Gregory
Why build a website about Black British History?
Black British history was an obvious choice. I’m a mixed race guy, born in Manchester England, in the 1970’s. I was adopted and grew up in the Almost totally White Peak District. The website was born out of my ongoing quest to understand my ethnicity and to share my findings with other people with similar interests.
Black History Course
After enrolling on politics course at University I took a module on Black British history . I found out a lot of information that I’d previously never known. When I looked online there was very little information about Black people in Britain or the contribution of Black Britons online. I decided to share this information with other people by making a website.
Inclusive British History
Black History is not exclusively for Black people because history of people in the British Isles is important and it should certainly be inclusive.
I have Caribbean and Irish ancestry. On the Irish side can trace my line back to the Geoghegan Clan. The Caribbean side of my ancestry is much more complex. With limited access to information, I went on a quest of discovery to find out more about Black People in Britain.
