The amazing Marcia Griffiths (Queen of Reggae) and one of the greatest living household names in the music industry was a guest on THE TONY TOKUNBO FERNANDEZ SHOW on Sunday the 22nd of August 2021.
Marcia Llyneth Griffiths, better known as Marcia Griffiths, is a Jamaican Reggae singer. Hailing from the land of Reggae and music i.e. Kingston, Jamaica, Griffiths’ success is due to her captivating voice and smooth love songs along with her wonderful live performances. Over the course of her career, she has produced most of her music in the Reggae genre and has also tried her bit in the Roots Reggae too. Being active from 1964, Griffiths has had associated acts with The Wailers, I Threes, and Bob and Marcia.
Griffiths started singing professionally at the tender age of 15 when she performed on stage with Byron Lee and the Dragonaires. She was brought to the mainstream music industry by Philip James of The Blues Busters, who heard her singing in her neighborhood. Right after her performance, she was offered singing contracts by Clement Dodd and Ronnie Nasralla of which she chose the former and produced a series of duets for the Studio One label. Her popular duets are with Tony Gregory, Bob Andy, Bob Marley, and Jeff Dixon. Her career from then onwards sky-rocketed and she has collected accolades from all around the world. In 2014, she received the Jamaican Order of Distinction for her work in the reggae music industry.
I am a Jamaican marketer and brand strategist whose career started as an artist manager and event producer. With an uncanny balance of left and right brain, I leverage my ability to conceptualize, create and communicate, with the ability to organize, coordinate and execute to guarantee great results every time.
I have worked as a brand consultant at different levels across all sectors of the Jamaican Creative Industries – music, theatre, advertising, events, media. From crafting communications plans for the Queen of Reggae, Marcia Griffiths and Jamaica’s Songwriting Icon, Bob Andy to producing radio programmes at the RJRGleaner Group, I have gathered a wealth of experience along her career.
For the last 6 years I have focused most of my energies as an advertising creative director and strategist to transform brands like Grace, Digicel, PNP, JPS, and NCB. As a consultant, I have been instrumental to the strategic launch and growth of several businesses and startups including Muse 360, ICPI, Nanook Enterprises, Rose Cottage Farms and The LAB Ltd.
My years of experience and vast network makes me an ideal leader or addition to any team. I am considered a walking directory and compass for navigating Jamaica’s evolving orange economy by colleagues.

As the pages of this new dawn unfold, my heart is filled with gratitude for all your birthday wishes, it means the world to me.
The story of Life continues and the spirit of gratitude creates more room for happiness.
I have pinched myself over and over again, I feel too young to be 52 .
I woke this morning feeling so excited to embrace the blessings of this moment.
And deep within me – The Spirit of gratitude creates room for more happiness
Deep within me – is a child, excited by the beauty of places, people, situations and adventures.
Deep within me are the imperfections that sometimes stain the footprints of humanity, for I am only human.
As the pages of this new dawn unfold , I want to remind each and everyone that I love you (no matter who you are ). The irony sometimes is that we do not need to like someone to love them. There is wisdom in accepting and embracing all shades of humanity so let us embrace all voices.
At 52, there are three great lessons I have learnt in recent years and I believe these three lessons have lived within me for a very long time.
The first lesson is that , A lot of the time we have nothing much to prove in life than do the right thing,be good to people , be the change we want to see in society, but most importantly – AIM TO BE THR VERY BEST VERSIONS OF OURSLEVES.
In todays world, you will be amazed to know that a lot of people really struggle to be themselves.
Take time to know yourself, love yourself and embrace the energy that makes you happy.
There is only one you and there is so much you can give to life once you discover who you are and your purpose . So what are you waiting for? The world is waiting to hear your song.
Do not be a follower, Be the Leader who is able to look within and embrace the beauty that the world needs, In simple terms – BE YOURSELF – YOUR SONG IS DIFFERENT FROM OTHERS.
The 2ndlesson is that the spirit of happiness starts from within you.
It starts from your thoughts and then your feelings and then your actions.
What makes you happy? What feeds your special spirit with a sense of fulfilment ? What makes you so excited to wake up in the morning ?
Now is the time to discover more about your inner self and the things that make you happy. Now is the time to start to feed your mind with the blessings of happy thought. The truth is that the more we begin to live though the journey of happy thoughts, the more we become motivated to embrace the beauty of life challenges and uncertainties.
The third lesson is a very important one – THE SPIRIT OF GRATITUDE IN LIFE CREATES ROOM FOR MORE BLESSINGS.
Be grateful for life , Be grateful for little things and cultivate a mindset within you with gratitude. The truth is that the spirit of gratitude also enables us to be more happier people.
Our gratitude in life must also be extended to our prayers. I personally believe that one of the most important prayers is a prayer of gratitude.
Start your prayer with a “thank you ” and end your day with a “thank you “
Take time to appreciate the simple things of life and be thankful – FOR GRATITUDE CREATES ROOM FOR MORE BLESSINGS .
WE ONLY LIVE ONCE -LETS CONTINUE TO WORK HARD, PLAY HARD AND CELEBRATE LIFE
Udoh Elijah Udom was socialized early to view education as the passport to success. Therefore, he grew up with a ravenous appetite for knowledge. Unfortunately, his education was put on hold when his father passed away even before he completed his primary education. With the money earned from menial jobs, and support from his mother, he completed his primary education and moved on to study privately for ordinary and advanced level General Certificate of Education (GCE). Success in GCE opened doors for further studies in institutions of higher learning.
He earned his bachelor’s degree in social science/psychology from The University of Wisconsin (USA); Juris Doctorate degree from The University of Iowa (USA); Master of Law degree from The University of Leicester (UK), and a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Government/Public Administration from The University of Texas at Austin (USA)—mission accomplished. While in graduate schools, he served as Faculty Assistant to different faculty members. This was when he developed an interest in academics, but his interest in academics was overtaken by an attractive job offer with the World Health Organization (WHO) regional office for Africa (AFRO) in Brazzaville, Congo.
He began a long career with WHO that lasted for two decades (1984 – 2004); first with AFRO in various legal and administrative capacities for thirteen years (1984 – 1997). This job took him to many African countries, South of the Sahara. He loved working in the African region of WHO, except when he was assigned to war-torn countries. Traveling to different African countries exposed him to different African cultures, particularly languages. In 1997, he was transferred to WHO Headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland, where he served as the Head of Administrative Services till his retirement in July 2004.
Retirement, in the true meaning of that word, was not in Dr. Udom’s lexicon. He retired from WHO but was not tired. In 2005, he accepted an Adjunct Faculty position with Strayer University in Washington, DC, USA.
This appointment paved the way for him to satisfy his passion for teaching, writing, and research. At Strayer University, he taught undergraduate- and graduate-level courses in law and public administration. His passion for teaching earned him recognition among students, his peers, and university leadership. In 2007, he was awarded the prestigious Donald R. Stoddard Faculty Award of Excellence. In 2009, he was promoted Academic Dean of Strayer University campus in Nashville, Tennessee. This was a unique position in the continuum of his career in academics, particularly as the facilitating link among faculty members, staff, students, and University leadership.
As an Academic Dean, he decided on courses to be offered each quarter, coordinated students’ admission processes, recruited faculty and staff of the academic department, and carried out regular faculty evaluation. He is currently an Adjunct Professor at Washington Adventist University, Takoma Park, Washington DC.
Dr. Udom is an author of three books: (i) Adminisprudence: A Behavioural Approach to Managing Ourselves and Others (1998), (ii) Restless Citizens: The Hidden Burdens of Living and Working for the United Nations (2010), and (iii) What Makes Students Tick: Unlocking the Passion for Learning (2014), and peer-reviewed articles. He continues to sharpen his knowledge by reading, writing, and a blogger for his online journals: http://www.ourroot.net. He is involved in church activities, ethnic and professional associations promoting human welfare and dignity. As a grandfather, he often travels to visit his grandchildren scattered across the globe. No wonder he says retirement is a job of many colors.
He is a man who “never sleeps.” He is always thinking or doing something to improve himself. What’s next after this autobiography has been published? Stay tuned.

In the book in your hand, the author chronicles experiences and challenges he faced during his extraordinary life journey.
Difficult as his early life was, he reminds us that our past experiences, no matter how ugly they were, are our best teacher and the brainchild of whatever we are today.
Therefore, we should endeavor to understand why certain things happened to us in the past and make use of our past experiences to design the future we want for ourselves and others. This is the kernel of this autobiography and underscores its title—The Future of my Past. Our past is behind us, but no less significant.
Understanding our past helps us to create a better future for ourselves. We should learn from the past but focus on the future because that’s where we are going to spend the rest of our lives.
The author admonishes those who think strings of university degrees, materialism, and socio-economic power, are what life is all about. Drawing from his past experiences, he discusses what he considers the true meaning of life and his credo for the future—People First. He plans to intentionally focus on other people’s welfare, rather than on himself, to lift them out of the valley of nothingness with whatever resources at his disposal. He sees this as the greatest act of humanity. The author encourages us to contribute whatever we can, wherever we are, to improve the lives of other people. That is, he concludes, what makes people significant, and the true meaning of life.
