THE SECRETS OF TENNIS APPLIED TO LIFE- BY TONY TOKUNBO ETEKA FERNANDEZ
I grew up in three parts of Nigeria – Lagos (West) Azare (North) and Calabar (South South)
Whilst growing up in Lagos, I used to play quite a lot of tennis, I was taught by a good friend and most evenings we would spend good time on the court after a long day of selling poultry to various outlets and restaurants in Yaba, Ikeja and Surulere
On one of the evenings, I was not feeling on form on court, the forehands and the backhands were just not flowing, there was more of an aggressive streak rather than good positioning- My friend noticed this and walked up to me – I will never forget his words “Tony, you need to remember one secret about Tennis, It is not about how hard you hit the ball, Its about how well you hit it and where you place it”
As I grew older, I began to realise that this same analogy applied to life- True Success is determined by the totality of our vision, our mission on earth, our purpose, our beliefs and the initiative to execute the specific goals that make us happy
There are different kinds of Success, Its story is defined by what is important to you
Success is not just about how far you get in life, it is also about where you get in life, so If you think that your pace is a bit too slow, DONT WORRY, just place the ball towards where it really matters and listen to your heart in the process.
Dont follow the crowd, paint and execute your dreams based on what makes you truly happy
