FROM LIFE IN THE STREETS TO BECOMING A LEADER AND A ROLE MODEL- ALL GOOD THINGS IN LIFE ARE POSSIBLE – WRITTEN BY OLUBOGU PETWISE

I find it difficult talking about my childhood, it was one filled with hardship and bitter phases, I never thought of creating a meaningful future.
I did not really know who I was and I still believe there are so many young people like myself out there on the street.

If I can come this far, they too can and anyone can do the same, because my road has not been an easy one.

I wouldn’t say I came from poor background but most times we found it diffict to eat and went without food for long stretches and even when
we camea food, we did not eat properly

My mother, Comfort Olubogu, was a very creative hardworking woman, shewas also very patient and sacrificed a lot.

She was willing and ready to sell her clothes to make sure we went to school;and how could I forget My loving and caring Dad, Jonas Olubogu is a trader.
I Thank God for given me the perfect parents. I come from Ideoto north, L.G.A in Imo State- Eastern Nigeria. From a family of four. Three boys & girl.

AS the first son and living a dubious life was very disheartening for my parents and siblings’, Growing up on the street entailed getting into trouble,
hanging around wih the wrong crowd and geting into all kinds of mischief. . I was among those people that believed so much in the street life, I was always that gentle boy on the street with a negative mindset. I used to find it very difficult going to church then. I saw it as multi-tasking thing to do. We were beaten before we can go to church.
Getting into trouble and had no direction and vision whatsoever, yet I never knew what manifestations were ahead for the fuure.

I still feel destiny isa funny thing.
My first chosen career then was football and my football nick name then was Petit, that was how my stage name pet wise came about.

Yet at an early age with all the distractions and wild phases, there were still seeds of passion and determination which were part of my being, my drive
and my mindset- even thuogh i often used it in the wrong way.
I was passionate about football and I gave it my best. My friends then, Ebuka Terri, Edu tente, Elochukwu, okirikor, Edu Nkoyeri to mention a few of them
now, play for international clubs, Unfortunately I dropped it for another career.
I had no regrets knowing full well that finally I have found the career of my own and was no more living in another man’s dream,
presently I derive joy in what I do.
I also enjoyed writing, I started with movie scripts and a bit of novel and poems, I started writing in high school in 2003,
my best subject in high school then was literature, so it gave me more clues what writing and filming was all about.
I was really into movies and within the short period of 7 months, I wrote,
directed and produced my first film entitled “BLOODY TWINS”. Featuring the two fast identical upcoming nollywood finest twins, Elijah and Elisha shire, then again I assisted in another epic movie entitled “KETARSHI” as an assistant director and producer, directed by a good friend of mine, Chukwu moses.
In the year 2005, I embarked on my music career, and then I was a commercial secular rapper, that is where raping in clubs and bars started.
I was with a group then called “WISE UNIT” and “WIZEMEN” gotten from my name Petwise. Alongside with Money Banks, Young G and Outwize.
I left it and joined another group called “ICONS” in the year 2011, the likes of Kskills and Graysongz, though we recorded one gospel song together,
titled BABA M, but we had a lot differences, our styles weren’t in line to what we want. Then in 2012, I decided to go on solo and I fully became a gospel singer, http://tindeck.com/users/petwyzz

I am grateful to God today because I did not abuse the gifts He gave me. If I should die today I am confident that I died for something that worth dying for. Discovering another gift of speaking is a thing joy and peace of mind. My motivational speaking career is the only thing that amazed my close friends and my immediate family members. They were contemplating how possible is that.
My speaking career took them unaware; coming from the street now going back there to change the young people is a big step in transformation. Knowing full well the life I once lived.
Today I am a testimony of a life developed into creativity, am now part of the creativity of the creator, writing, singing and speaking, This is the most amazing combination, meaning that no matter who you are , or where you are from, I can always reach you and you will always hear me. You can make a change in your life, if you really want to.
I still reminiscing the community seminar hosted by one of my mentor, Omah Michael. That’s was my first speaking engagement. I was not prepared because I only planned to anchor the program and not to be among the speakers. There is still room for growth battling for self confidence in me then. I was not in my right self that day, it was a very difficult thing for me, anybody that knew me very well will know am a very timid person. Facing people is like hell to me…

That same day, my two kid siblings were around, Chinelo and Chukwunonso, our last son Obinna was in school then.

.
There is something I still found very difficult to believe, that within a short time of been a motivational life changing speaker,
I have changed and inspired a lot of lives around the world and am still doing that. I don’t believe more in repetition of prayers like every other people
do. I pray less and I act more. Each time I close my eyes to pray the first thing I always ask God is GRACE, like my guidance will always say; Grace is the fastest car in the world. I could remember the day I told my mother even if I decided to be failure in life is already late. I can’t remain there. There is this word I always register at the back of my subconscious mind that becoming great in life is very easy but becoming nobody is very hard. I always knew I had a dream that is worth dying for.
One big advice that I have learnt to use and it has been awesome personally to me is to believe totally and totally on GOD not anyone. I used to wait for
other people to do before I can, I have noticed, that the people you are waiting for are also waiting for you to be the first to do,
most of them does not have what you have.
Today, I am a founder of many organizations, Empowerment speaker, Business Advisor, social entrepreneur, community ambassador, change agent, humanitarian,
Author, Song writer and Award winning Gospel artiste, I have written so many books, managing about four life transforming organizations,
gotten a lot of international recognitions, and I have embarked on so many community young empowerment programs, still aiming to achieve more in
nearby future. Working on so many upcoming projects which I will disclose later and will always keeps my fans posted.
I am also the brainchild behind Leadership and Mind Ambassadors Awards

THE FIRST EVER TRUE AFRICAN HERITAGE AWARDS HOSTED BY ADEBEAUTY LOVE- A NIGHT TO REMEMBER

Its Saturday the 25th of October 2015 and I am still feeling pretty exhausted after a long evening the night before at The Beffta Awards in West London, I had not visited Woolwich for many years, it felt like arriving back into the space of a familiar world of a calm embracing energy.

It took me ages to find the Event palace, but not even the grey mood from the cold wind could dampen my expectations of a lovely evening. For more than six months, everyone had been talking about THE TRUE AFRICAN HERITAGE AWARDS hosted by a Profound Community Ambassador and Social Entrepreneur- ADEBEAUTY LOVE. Everyone had been talking about Adebeauty Love, A down to Earth natural leader filled with grace, charm, poise and an electrifying laughter that embraced warmth, energy and truth.

Ade was hosting The True African Heritage Awards for the very first time, and once i stepped into The Events Palace in Woolwich, it was clearly evident that her network was a reflection of her vision, her purpose and the beautiful facets that made up the Adebeauty Love, this network was also an extension of many communities celebrating Love in One World all under the umbrella that embraces International togetherness.

There were guests from Nigeria, Ghana, Zimbabwe, Malawi, Zambia, Cameroun, England, France and so many other places The room was also filled with familiar faces in The Nigerian Community who had made great contributions over the years Some people say that variety is the spice of Life- The True African Heritage Awards had variety – it ranged from Live music, A fashion Show, pre-recorded Interviews by ZIMLINK, Networking and great the Food The food was also a good eye opener into part of What West african cuisines was all about- On display in a neat corner was White Rice, Jollof Rice, Red Stew, Yam Porridge, Cow Foot, Vegetables, Chicken and so much more, and I even noticed many people from other regions of Africa, licking their fingers and coming back for more- all cooked by ADEBEAUTY LOVE. She was everywhere to be found, hosting, greeting, on the mics, making people Laugh, but also in her on little way, reminding people – that every moment in Life is beautiful and things are never that really bad.

Lots of award were also won that night by great Role Models and Community Ambassadors who were constantly making a difference to Life, but for me- every nominee was already a winner, every atendee was already a winner- The whole room was filled with assumming and unassumming winners. The Zimlink Team was also present on the evening to promote and support The Vision of True African Heritage Awards but also to take photographs and conduct interviews. Dark Zac, Nasilee, Eugune and Simba were all in action. ZIMLINK also won their first Award that evening- for all the great work they had been doing in he community and once again Adebeaty Love gave a very emotional speech about the great work ZIMLINK were doing in the community The True African Heritage Awards will go down as one of the most memorable events in 2014 and will be talked about for a very long time to come For more information on True African Heritage, Visit- http://www.trueafricanheritage.co.uk/

ROLE MODEL OF THE WEEK- HON REMY CHUKWUNYERE- DIRECTOR GENERAL – IMO STATE DIRECTORATE OF EMPLOYMENT, NIGERIA

BIOGRAPHY OF HON. REMY CHIDI CHUKWUNYERE

It is our pleasure to bring to you the making of this emerging young leader of our

generation, Hon. Remy Chidi Chukwunyere, who hails from Ohaji/Egbema Local

Government Area of Imo State of Nigeria.

Early childhood days

As the only son and last child of his parents, his birth on December 12, 1975 was

heralded with great celebrations, the type that was never seen in that community.

In 1981, he started his Primary school education at the Umuokanne Central School,

where he first began his leadership career when he was appointed the first Senior

Prefect of the School between 1985 and 1986. In practical demonstration of the high

intellect God Almighty created him with, he was the only pupil from that school who

passed the First School Leaving Certificate (FSLC) in 1986 at Credit level.

Between 1987 and 1989, he completed his Junior Secondary Education at the

Umuokanne Comprehensive Secondary School. There again, his leadership qualities

found him out and he was a Class Prefect all through the Junior Classes and finally

became the School Regulator, a position he held until he left the school for the Imo

State Senior Secondary School for Science, Etiti after obtaining an excellent Junior

Secondary School Certificate in 1989.

In 1990, he got admitted into one of the best Secondary Schools in Nigeria, the

Imo State Senior Secondary School for Science, Etiti. Even though, the school was a

collection of best brains from all over the country, his determination to make a mark in

the history of this generation equally made him graduate as one of the best students of

that great college.

University days

At the Federal University of Technology, Owerri, Imo State, where he studied Industrial

Biochemistry, Hon. Remy Chukwunyere was as popular as the Vice Chancellor. As a

student’s union leader, activist and Editor of the FUTO Hotline, he was loved by all and

sundry.

While still a student, he had several work experiences from the various companies he

was attached to during his Students’ Industrial Work Experience Schemes. In 1995,

he was attached to the Operations Department of Lever Brothers Nigeria PLC (now

Unilever PLC), Apapa, Lagos for a period of three months. In 1997, he also worked with

the Shipping Department of Panalpina World Transport Nig. Ltd, Port Harcourt, Rivers

State for six months. Within this period, his leadership qualities equally manifested in

the various positions he occupied in different organizations.

Passion for development work

In 1999, during his one year National Youth Service at the Pipelines and Products

Marketing Company (a division of Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation) in Kaduna,

this call to lead and serve humanity became full blown and could no longer be hidden.

There in Kaduna, in 1999, he founded a non-governmental development organization

known as the African Youth Development Foundation (AFRYDEF). With the meager

resources at his disposal as a youth corps member, he established and funded the

activities of the organization, which maintained membership strength of over fifty

young people, before he left the city after his National Youth Service coupled with the

outbreak of the Sharia crisis in 2000.

Back in Owerri, Imo State, in 2000, his foundation, AFRYDEF in collaboration with the

Committee for Advancement of Justice facilitated the training of fifty youths from

the oil producing communities of Imo State in peace building and conflict resolution

with funding from the United States Agency for International Development/Office of

Transition Initiatives (USAID/OTI).

Today, AFRYDEF has grown to become an internationally recognized organization

with offices in Nigeria, South Africa and USA. With the NGO, he has impacted on the

lives of several youths, women and children through a popular project they call “Put a

Smile on Someone’s Face” and other community and youth development programs.

More information about the activities of AFRYDEF is available on its website at http://

http://www.inspireyouths.org.

Early political career

Between 2001 and 2003, he served as a Member of the Local Government Monitoring

Committee of the National Poverty Eradication Programme (NAPEP) in Ohaji/Egbema

Local Government Area of Imo State.

In 2002, his leadership potentials attracted the attention of the Imo State Government

under the administration of Governor Achike Udenwa who approved his appointment

as a Member of the Imo State Education Task Force and Chairman of the Education

Task Force in Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area.

In 2004, he was appointed the Secretary to the Ohaji/Egbema Local Government

Council of Imo State. As the Head of the Policy Department between 2004 and 2007,

he was responsible for supervising the activities of the six departments of the Council,

viz: Works, Housing and Transport; Youth and Sports; Administration; Finance;

Agriculture and Health. In fact his contributions to the administration was what won

his boss, Chief Luke Chukwu, the Best Performed Local Government Chairman in

Nigeria, an award conferred on him by the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in

2006.

As an entrepreneur and consultant

At the end of his service at the Local Government in 2007, he returned back

to AFRYDEF as well as established his first private company, Zenith Computer

Technologies, an Information Technology and computer services company based in

Owerri, Imo State. Today Zenith Computer Technologies is a one-stop computer-shop

providing such services as website development, professional training, computer

maintenance and networking, etc. Its clientele list has such big names as Imo State

House of Assembly, Owerri; Imo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission;

Imo State Ministry of Works, Housing and Transport; Imo State Ministry of Public

Utilities and Rural Development; etc.

As a development consultant, Hon. Remy Chukwunyere has consulted for the USAID/

Office of Transition Initiatives; UNESCO/Nigerian Office; Actionaid International;

Nigerian Institute of Social and Economic Research (NISER); Imo State Education

Management Board; Global Health Council; etc.

Hon. Remy Chukwunyere is an entrepreneur, a political strategist, a public speaker,

an online newspaper publisher, writer and development consultant and has spoken

in several conferences and workshops on entrepreneurship, youth development,

peace and conflict resolution, leadership development, etc. He has also contributed his

opinions in several national and international issues through print, electronic media

and internet.

A strategic planner and political strategist

As a new generation politician, Hon. Remy Chukwunyere is one of the strong men in

Ohaji/Egbema politics, who combines his strategic planning with advocacy skills to

deliver his choice candidates. Current beneficiaries of this political expertise are His

Excellency, Owelle Rochas Okorocha, the Executive Governor of Imo State and Hon.

Luke Chukwu, the member representing Ohaji/Egbema State Constituency at the Imo

State House of Assembly, Owerri.

His appointment as the Director-General, Imo State Directorate for Employment by

His Excellency, Owelle Rochas Okorocha’s administration is a well deserved one. The

Government has rightly put a square peg in a square hole. With his wide experiences in

development advocacy, youth empowerment and job creation as well as his contacts

with international development agencies, Hon. Remy Chukwunyere is taking the issues

of youth unemployment and job creation to the front burner in the State affairs.

As an innovator and an entrepreneur, he has introduced a number of job creation

programs in the agency, including the Imo Jobs Online and Unemployment Database,

Imo Jobs Fair, Graduate Enterprise Challenge, Creative Enterprise Academy, among

others in partnership with both national and international organizations in the country.

Conclusion

As an emerging leader of this generation we are convinced that Hon. Remy

Chukwunyere will do all within his reach to ameliorate the sufferings of the

unemployed in Imo State. If he could put smiles on the faces of several youths, women

and children as the Executive Director of the African Youth Development Foundation,

we believe he will transform the unemployment crisis in the State and empower Imo

youths with the skills they need to build sustainable enterprises.

Finally, Hon. Remy Chukwunyere is a dedicated Christian, a Deacon and a

philanthropist. He is married to his lovely, beautiful wife and partner, Engr. Linda

Chukwunyere and their union is blessed with three handsome boys: Remy Jnr., Favour

and Destiny.

TO GOD BE THE GLORY!
