“AFRICA RISING” CONFERENCE FOR AFRICAN WOMEN IN DIASPORA, ORGANISED BY JUSTINA MUTALE AT HOUSE OF LORDS

THE CONFERENCE TITLED “AFRICA RISING” – THE ROLE OF THE DIASPORA AFRICAN WOMEN took place on Thursday the 2nd of October at The House of Lords, Palace of Westminister in London.
I was starting to imagine, all the hard work effort it took not only to create a great platform of distinguished African Women in the Diaspora, to engage, exchange ideas and offer
practical soloutions to the development of progressive African women in the diaspora, but also to create and build effective partnerships in bridging unity, progress and social
harmony amongst African women making a difference.
For me it also served as an eye opener as to undersand more about the concerns of The African Women in the diaspora, the challenges they face and the way forward.
I had attended several African Women Conferences in the past (and even spoken at a few) and over the years my interest in The Role of The African Woman in an ever
changing society began to grow with new fusions of natural enthusiasm.

It was the first time also I was going to meet The Main Organiser- The Amazing Justina Mutale.
Justina is An Ambassador of Peace, Philanthropist, International Speaker, Human Rights Activist and Well Travelled
Community Ambassador.

My Business and Media Partner – Mr Dark Zarkes- The CEO of ZIMLINK and an advocate for equality, change and world peace was also present to provide high quality photography and
video footage on the day and I was looking forward to interviewing some of the high profile keynote speakers that brought a refreshing sense of pride to
our community.
I had presented and produced an African International Radio talk show for over two years called AFRICA4U with listeners in 9 Countries around the world.
Most of my listeners were African Women and over the years i began to develop a bit of understanding and sub-conscious interest of Issues that faced Women and how important and effective
they were in shaping the growth, development and harmony of nations
On the day, I ended up interviewing Madam JUSTINA MUTALE- The Main Organiser of The Event, Deborah Owhin – A Gender equality specialist
and Founder of Made Equal, CHIEF KATE ANOLUE – Founder of the Forum for African Women in Politics (FWAP) and former Mayor of the London Borough of Enfield,
DR TITILOLA BANJOKO – A healthcare manager with a clinical background. She pioneered the formation of AfricaRecruit and FindaJobinAfrica.com

SADO JIRDE – The Director of Black South West Network (BSWN), a charity focused on human rights and The One and only Princess of
Africa and one of Africas greatest Music Legends- Ivonne Chaka ChAKa

All the distinguished women I interviewed inspired me with their vision and their dynamic approach to feed the world with
new hopes and a priceless cord of ambition, drive and energy.
Change, Growth, Understanding,Inspirations, Love and Unity is sometimes all we need, two questions are also vital at the end of every conference

1. What happens next?
2. Where do we go from here?

“PERHAPS YOU DID NOT HEAR” POETRY BY MR DAVID SMITH. MR SMITH WAS THE RUNNER UP AT THE TONY TOKUNBO FERNANDEZ NATIONAL POETRY COMPETITION, HE IS ALSO CHAIRMAN OF BRITISH AFRICAN BUSINESS ALLIANCE

Perhaps you did not hear

Perhaps you did not hear what you said
Perhaps the barbs and thorns of your whipping words
Went unrecognised
Perhaps the sound of the thunder in your heart
Cluttered your thoughts, hell bent on self-righteous expression
Perhaps I heard
Perhaps the ears of the elephant
flapped in the wind
Perhaps the roar of the lion
Rent the night
Perhaps it was a tremor of the earth
Perhaps I heard
Yet with the quietest ears
You would hear my pain
Yet with the smallest cry
You would hear my dream

Perhaps you heard

Across Africa, beyond the cities and the farms
Across Africa beyond the restaurants and bars
Across Africa I hear the weeping of the bairns
And their mothers, fathers too
Knowing they were not born for this
This is their time
It is our time

It is the time for us to hear
It is the time for us not to fear
And wisely, together we will move forward
As we listen, as we learn, as we grow.

Perhaps you hear.
18th September 09

“HER WORLD” BY 22 YEAR OLD DAUDA LADEJOBI- THE POEM THAT WON THE TONY TOKUNBO FERNANDEZ NATIONAL POETRY COMPETITION

Her world
Let me show you
Somewhere you’ve never seen
To a place you’ve never been
This is her world
Her trees aren’t green
They are yellow with sticky bits
Honey Combs in these foxes
She doesn’t feel good enough so she flaunts it
Only to be trampled on by these roads
that stop her getting to where she needs to go
She needs to grow
You can find her on corners
Behind fences
In parks or forests
Put down by hotel erections
She screams when the thunder claps
Whines when the wind goes up her knees
She gets air so she feels lije breeze
When the sun comes out she seems at ease
Until tye cold nights
She falls with the snow
Only with us does she have a home
But what do you care
She’s just your. ..
Let me show you
Somewhere you’ve never seen
To a place you’ve never been
This is her world
Her skies are not blue
All you see is black smug
Weary eyes behing a dark fog
She can’t see where she’s going
Cold shoulders breaking off
As our kitchens our heating up
As she gets empty she stops filling us
So we start digging her
To give us some more
Cause she’s just your
Let me show you
To a place you’ve never been
Deep inside her
Cause her larva burn you up
Let’s not forget her fathers a god to us
Forgoten like the titans
She’s lust to us
Her history scattered through documents and abandoned institutes
But what do you care
She’s just your. ..
Let me show you
Somewhere you’ve never seen
To a place you’ve never been
This is her world
the colors Green and blue all over her surface
Marks of dominace
She used to urupt
but now tears stream
Her tsunamis of lost dreams
So far from an equal when she reaches out
There’s nothing but space
No body to fit (de) the face
In her
Is a place
Untouched
And that’s when she looks her best
All naturel
Until blazes of passion
Leave her striped beyond recognition
How have we forced our world in prostitution

ROLE MODEL OF THE WEEK- MR SOLA KUTI- NIGERIAN ENTREPRENEUR AND ASPIRANT FOR LAGOS STATE GOVERNOR 2015

Babasola Kuti (Sola Kuti fondly called SK by friends and family) is a Nigerian entrepreneur, well known in political, business and social circles in Lagos and Abuja.

Sola lived most of his life in Lagos State, Nigeria where he attended the University of Lagos Staff School, St Finbarrs College Akoka, International School Lagos, and University of Lagos before relocating to the UK to attend Business School at Middlesex University Business School in Hendon. He studied Business Information Systems with Human Resource Management and graduated with a Second Class Upper division.

From that point he went on to consult for the London Borough of Hackney, French consulting firm – SEMA group, and the American Oil Company AMOCO…now BPAMOCO!

Sola relocated to Nigeria in 2003 and was appointed to serve as a Senior Aide with Senator Tokunbo Ogunbanjo (representing Ogun East). He served in that capacity till 2007.

Sola has a social conscience, tired of the same old stories in Nigerian politics about elected officials and political appointees at both State and Federal levels, he has decided to make known his intention to be a career politician, declaring that “it is time for a new generation to positively influence the development of Nigeria”.

Sola has launched this blog website to communicate with people all over the world and hopes to share ideas and inspire as well as be inspired by these interactions.

Sola is committed to improving the way Nigeria is managed, firmly believing that sound business practices can be applied to running the country for the benefit of the people, business and government.

Sola says:
“The Election race has begun and eligible voters in Nigeria once more have the opportunity to vote for who they
want to represent them in government. The people MUST choose decent leaders and in turn get a government that they can trust. This country needs real leadership in order to build the nation our people deserve, especially considering the vast human and natural resources available to us.

Only by actually voting can people have their voices heard, be assured that frontline public services will be
protected from mismanagement and the country’s resources used to benefit the majority and not the tiny minority
we are used to seeing.

Don’t sit back and complain when nothing changes, when you have made no effort to achieve change, make sure you register to vote and on election day go out and use that vote wisely.

REMEMBER IF YOU DO NOT ELECT THE GOVERNMENT YOU DESERVE, YOU WILL DESERVE THE GOVERNMENT YOU GET!

THE TIME IS HERE!
