NIDO Worldwide Leadership Communique on the status of Diaspora Commission

Recall that the NIDO Worldwide Leadership commended the 8th National Assembly (NASS) under the leadership of Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki (Senate President) and Honorable Dogara Yakubu (Speaker of the House of Representatives), on the passage of the Nigeria Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) Bill, in March 30, 2017. It was a promise made and kept. We specially recognized the tremendous groundwork done by Senator Rose Oko (Chairperson of the Senate Committee for Diaspora and Civil Societies and Honourable Rita Orji (Chairperson of the House Committee for Diaspora and Foreign Affairs), and indeed also all members of NASS both past and present for championing the passage of the bill. Recall further that on Thursday 06 July 2017, in our appreciation letter to the Presidency, we expressed profound gratitude to His Excellency Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, the Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, then the Acting President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria for graciously assenting to Nigerians in Diaspora Commission Establishment Bill 2017. It was therefore my pleasure to handover a copy of NIDOWW communique on the status of Diaspora Commission to His Excellency Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, the Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria on behalf of NIDOWW Leadership during his visit to Germany.

DR MUKWEGE FROM THE CONGO WINS NOBEL PEACE PRIZE IN OSLO FOR TREATING VICTIMS OF WAR RAPE

CONGRATULATIONS TO DR DENIS MUKWEGE FROM THE CONGO WHO HAS PICKED UP THE NOBEL PEACE PRIZE  IN OSLO FOR TREATING VICTIMS OF WAR RAPE

ABOUT DR DENIS MUKWEGE

Dr Denis Mukwege is a world-renowned gynaecologist, human rights activist and Nobel Peace laureate from east Congo. He has become the world’s leading specialist in the treatment of wartime sexual violence and a global campaigner against the use of rape as a weapon of war.

As a child Denis Mukwege accompanied his father, a pastor, to visit the sick in Bukavu, a city in the eastern part of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) on the shore of Lake Kivu. One day, they went to see a terminally-ill boy. They prayed for him but were unable to do more.

Mukwege was eight years old at that time and decided after this experience that he would become a doctor. He told his father: “You can pray, but I will give medicines.”

Today Denis Mukwege is a world-renowned gynaecologist. Due to the high level of sexual violence in the region and a war that has been shaking east Congo for more than two decades, he specialised in the treatment of women raped during the conflict.

ROLE MODEL OF THE WEEK – MAGDA TEDLA, TRAINED FOOD NUTRITIONIST FROM ERITREA

As a trained nutritionist I have developed a nutrition education program which focuses mainly on children and young adults. During the course entitled “Healthy Cooking and Nutrition”, which runs weekly, I seek to train and encourage the attendees, leaving them well-grounded in the area of proper cooking methods and healthy food selection.

Besides that, I also focus on giving cooking classes in the traditional food history of African countries. I mainly focus on the herbs, traditions, and ingredients which benefit our health. I also like to give classes on how colonialism affected for example the food history of different African and South American countries like Brazil.

My last workshop was about Afrobrazilian food. We spoke about slavery as well as traditions which are due to southwestern African countries like Angola, Nigeria, Ghana etc. and are still to find in Bahia. With my business, I try to build bridges between different cultures and forms of nutrition.

Therefore I offer Online Workshops, Cooking Classes, Consultation Services, Caterings, Kids Birthday Parties and much more.

Please find more information on my SM Accounts ( find the accounts in my Signature): Magda´s Food Programme or www.magdasfoodprogramme.com
