“IDP CAMP” BY ADEDAYO AGARAU( WINNER OF THE TONY TOKUNBO FERNANDEZ INTERNATIONAL POETRY COMPETITION 2015

IDP CAMP – BY ADEDAYO AGARAU

i am building a new home
in a tent of white fossils.
my children have the moon
in their navels and the sun
is a button blown in their bellies.

to make love with my wife
i let the crickets wake,
darling is a loud moaner
and I dig for the fruit of her lips.

we are building a new home
in a dark dark room,
no lantern to forecast
when peace shall come,

just a lonely moon
watching another soldier fall,
no lantern!
