Invasion 1897 chronicles the vivid accounts of the infamous British Punitive Expedition to Benin, Nigeria that led to killings, destruction, looting thousands of artifacts (Peoples’ Records) and deposition of the last King of Africa: Oba Ovonramwen of the Great Benin Empire. Told for the first time from the victim’s perspective. They called it massacre, but it was indeed an invasion. After showing inside the British Museum, London now adopted by the British Film Institute (BFI) to be showcased on 7th February, 2015 1pm. Come meet the stars on the red carpet.
