THE AFRICA4U BRAND BY TONY TOKUNBO FERNANDEZ AND HOW IT ALL STARTED FROM A LITTLE MUSTARD SEED

Image

“AFRICA4U” is all about what is happening in many African and Caribbean communities around The World from an African and Caribbean viewpoint, this also entails events taking place , success stories and people with REAL LIFE STORIES making a difference.
We aim to promote, empower, share and celebrate The Achievements of ROLE MODELS, UNSUNG HEROES, SOCIAL ENTREPRENEURS, COMMUNITY LEADERS, UPCOMING ARTISTS, POETS, WRITERS, HUMANITARIANS and EVERY DAY PEOPLE, you do not get to hear about , who are selfless in their VISION to empower communities

We are constantly on the go, discovering GREAT MINDS and ROLE MODELS, especially at GRASS-ROOT LEVEL, if you know of such people making a HUGE and REAL DIFFERENCE within The community, we would like to hear from you or them, I can be reached on 07882809005

THE AFRICA4U BRAND, first started out as an International Radio Talk Show called “AFRICA4U RADIO SHOW” in June 2011 with Isreal Onoriode (Nollywood Actor, Highlife Musician, Videographer and Comedian) as my first guest and so every Tuesday at 6pm, I interviewed Role Models, Community Leaders, Performing Artists, Writers, Motivational Speakers, Social Entrepreneurs, Women Empowerment Ambassadors, Members of Parliament, former UK Ministers and People making a difference to Life, especially at grass-root level.
The aim of the show was to empower the youth and the mindsets of several black communities around the world through the medium of MY GUESTS and their REAL LIFE STORIES on air, this weekly practice became inspirational and thought provoking overnight, hence in just over two years, I had interviewed over 150 Guests( which was made up of LIVE and PRE-RECORDED SESSIONS), I had also organised and conducted pre-recorded interviews within that period in places as far as NIGERIA, BELGIUM AND THE CHEQ REPUBLIC.
In no time, “THE AFRICA4U RADIO TALK SHOW” had attracted a following of listeners and fans in 9 countries : THE UK, THE STATES, CANADA, NIGERIA, SOUTH AFRICA, GERMANY, SPAIN, ITALY and HOLLAND.
The show also began to attract the attention of a lot of upcoming African Artists around the world, especially when I made it a MANDATORY RULE, that 75 percent of The Music, I was going to play on air, would be by Upcoming African Artist at Grass Root level- all for FREE, as a result, I also became a MENTOR to upcoming African Artists around the world and today, I also manage TWO talented performing Artists based in Nigeria; PINTINZ and PETWISE

In October 2013, READING4U COMMUNITY RADIO STATION, closed down due to unforseen circumstances and by this time, AFRICA4U RADIO TALK SHOW had become one of the fastest growing Community Talk Shows in The Whole of Berkshire- and perhaps The Fastest.

The NEWS came as an unexpected surprise to MANY OF my loyal fans, listeners and followers and I began to receive loads of phone calls and emails from followers as to when next I was going to be back on air. It was only then, it really dawned on me – about the followers I had managed to attract in just over TWO YEARS.

In the next few weeks,I made the decision to re- brand AFRICA4U to something much bigger, practical and empowering, but I did not know how and decided to sleep on it.

The Same month READING4U COMMUNITY RADIO STATION, closed was the same month I organised and compered for the first time ever THE BLACK HISTORY MONTH CELEBRATIONS AT THE HOUSE OF PARLIAMENT in conjunction with MP ALOK SHARMA.
Something strange but spiritually meaningful happened exactly three weeks before the event, I was going through my album of business cards and cracking my brain on the kind of photographer I would like for the event, but many of the photographers i knew were out of town and some i could net hold off, and then all of a sudden the phone rang and the gentleman at the other end said “Tony, you many not know me, but i have heard quite a bit about you and I understand you are organising A Black History Month Celebration at The House of Parliament, well my name is Zac, I am The Founder of A charity called Zimlink, I also do filming and photography and I would love to be the photographer at your event at The House of Parliament”, We ended up speaking on the phone for more than an hour, little did i know then, that I would end up working with Zac in partnership.
Zac ended up being The Photographer for The day at The House of Parliament and our friendship and partnership began straight afterwards

In January 2014, AFRICA4U in collaboration with ZIMLINK teamed up to conduct Video and Audio Interviews with Role Models with REAL LIFE STORIES, especially at Grass root level, The aim was to celebrate, promote and share their stories through a wide range of Social Media Platforms as a means of representing the voices of UNSUNG HEROES, NEW TALENT, UPCOMING ARTISTS, AND ROLE MODELS at grass- root level who are not always able to make it to The Mainstream
AFRICA4U in collaboration with DARK ZAC and ZIMLINK now organise and conduct Video Interviews with Role Models, Community Leaders, Upcoming Artists, Motivational Speakers, Poets, Writers, Women Empowerment Ambassadors, Humanitarians, Writers and Every day people making a difference to LIFE
These Video interviews are now organised once a month at The White Lion, 233 Streatham High Road, Streatham, South London or at an agreed London venue.
I you know of anyone making a big difference in the community who you feel the world should know about, do not hesitate to ring me on 07882809005.

ROLE MODEL OF THE WEEK- ELAKA- SINGER, SONGWRITER AND SOCIAL ENTREPRENEUR FROM ZAMBIA

Image

The artist known as Elaka™ is an award winning British singer/songwriter.This young pioneer leaves no stone unturned when it comes to the endless talent she possesses. Amongst her many talents her main love is music, it has always been Elaka’s dream to be able to write and perform her music. She says: “I feel like I come alive when I am either in the studio or holding that mic in front of an audience, it’s an exhilarating experience” With the fortunate heritage of being Zambian and the privilege of living in the UK, she gets the opportunity to experiment with her identity as a Zambian mixed with an English culture through her music.

Elaka does not like to be compared to other artists as she feels that each artist is unique in their creativity she says: “that’s what helps us maintain our individuality, I have a different vocal style, my range is vast it bridges 4 octaves but in most cases I like to keep it simple but interesting, I try not to limit myself or get pigeon holed, that just wouldn’t be me”. Her voice allows her the ability to experiment with various genres of music, and like her voice her sound is not genre specific either. She writes songs about her emotions and her life’s journey, observations from others and her own personal experiences, and lets the sound take her wherever that emotion goes.

A lot of people are probably wondering who Elaka is, and where she came from. Elaka has been around in the industry for a while, and has kept it reasonably low key in regards to her music, in order to horn her skills. She used this time to nurture her talent and to learn more about the industry. This time also allowed her the opportunity to build up on her many talents mentioned above. She is now a proud owner of a 2 time award winning branding, marketing, and record label Effycom Productions www.effycomproductions.co.uk, a 2010 two time BEFFTA nominated Beauty Pageant Queen Of Zambia UK www.queenofzambiauk.co.ukwhich aids in promoting Zambians around the world and also help various charities in particular the ones in Zambia, a clothing line Elrhy Clothing and in 2009 was a cast member of the UK independent movie Find Her Keep Her and the list goes on.

Before 2011 Elaka had the privilege of performing on the same stage as some of UK and Zambia’s top artists such as Sway, Devlin, Fumin, Chipmunk, Bashy, Omar, Shola Ama, Ghetts, Tinchy Stryder just to name a few; and from Zambia Mozegeta, K’Million, Petersen, Danny, Angela Nyirenda, MC Wabwino, the Late Lilly T and many more. She has also had the privilege of performing with the likes of Legendary Tony Hadley (of Spandle Ballet), Brenda Edwards (of Xfactor and Chicago fame), Duncan James from Blue, Omar, Shola Ama, Ghetts and Bashy. With her promo single titled “I Can’t Let You Go” which was released in March 2011 is looking very promising for Elaka. Her producer Gary Hutchins who is a music industry veteran, has worked with even bigger legends such as Bob Marley, Liza Minnelli, Shirley Bassey, Frank Sinatra just to name a few; he has accolades of awards in sell out gigs and platinum and gold plaques. It is safe to say that our Zambian born princess of alternative music is in safe hands. Having been hard at work with redefined fresh material for 2011/12, the release of her promo single I Can’t Let You Go, which is available for digital download, with a follow up to release her debut single titled ‘My Africa’ scheduled for release mid 2012. Her promo single has already received great feedback from the UK and the rest of Europe, paving a great path for her soon to be released debut single. With a number of collaborations already in the pipeline with African and UK

TIME FOR A BIG LEAP – POETRY BY TONY TOKUNBO ETEKA FERNANDEZ- PUBLISHED WRITER, POET AND MENTOR

Image

 One the Verge

Of Another Awakening

And another opening …

Into a new land of a fertile harvest

I recall the days I sat on the fence

Wondering into space

and staring at the motion of the same old pattern

Static in Stance,

And not taking that dive

Into the big blue ocean

And now …

I find myself swimming

embraced by the presence of the stormy waters

How deep is the Ocean?

What lies beyond the the surface of the Sky?

Only time will tell

Once you take that leap

JUST FRIENDS- POETRY BY TONY TOKUNBO ETEKA FERNANDEZ- PUBLISHED POET, WRITER AND MENTOR

Image

It all started from a thin line,

On a warm sunny day,

The presence of new energy ..

fills a new space like a perfect puzzle.

And those eyes …

They just sit in a corner

Embracing and absorbing the language ..

and the music of a new stranger

It all started from a thin line.

A collective force of  …….

handshakes

stories

energy

laughter

growth

mental debates

hide and seek

and constant sparks of dejavu

And then suddenly

A new tide unfolded from nowhere

And added new light to the season

And so now were are JUST FRIENDS.
