ROLE MODEL OF THE WEEK – ONYINYE ETONIRU – AUTHOR, BUSINESS ENTREPRENEUR & YOUTH AMBASSADOR

My name is Onyinye Etoniru; I am a young biz adventurous entrepreneur, author and a passionate Nigerian. I am in my early twenties. I hail from Anambra State and I am the last born in a family of three. I have a senior brother, Chidi and a twin sister, Ogechi. I had my primary education in Port – Harcourt and moved on to Benin City for my secondary education in Igbinedion Education Centre.

I hold a degree in Estate Management with a first class honors from the University of Lagos and a Master degree in International Management from Henley Business School in United Kingdom. I consult for small, medium- sized businesses and big corporations on organizational design. I advice on brand and strategy at Joe Etoniru & Associates, a leading real estate firm and currently work as an Associate at Afreal Limited, a real-estate finance and investment advisory company. Having worked in various real-estate firms, A.Ademakinwa & Co, Sim Anokwuru & Co and Joe Etoniru & Associates over the years, I have gained experience in the real estate sector and management as a young professional.

I am passionate about helping people discover and live true to God, themselves and their dreams. These, I am able to achieve through personal projects I undertake like the true living conference(TLC), the TLCmentor-me Challenge, speaking, hosting #Trueinspire show and writing.

I had the first edition of TLC in February, while I was a corper, serving in Nasarawa state and subsequent editions have been in United Kingdom and Lagos in Nigeria.

My first published book is The Journey of a Higher Life, The book talks on the key issues relating to life and godliness comparing natural vulnerability with spiritual fervor. I shared 70 great lessons, with various perspectives about different situations in a typical Christian life, and I gave revelational truth on how to handle those issues. I am also currently working on other books which would be out soon.

I have always had a flair for business and adding value to people’s life and at age 18 I started a lifestyle brand Virginites, which is aimed at creating useful practical everyday lifestyle items inspired by symphony and art prints, providing product categories (clothing, home and accessories) that are exquisite, eco- friendly, exciting and exclusive. We have a vision to be Africa’s renowned lifestyle brand inspired by symphony and art.

I am passionately interested in the spiritual and personal development of women, this has inspired me to mentor young girls and ladies as a true living coach and start True Jewels Hang out for young women.

I am a LEAP Africa alumni, Red award alumni, a women mentoring women alumni and a Lagos Business School Young Talent Programme Alumni. This has contributed in developing my capacity and awakening my civic responsibility as a change agent. I am a strong supporter of volunteering as I’ve volunteered in Ghana at Love and peace orphanage for a Christmas event. I’ve also volunteered for Guardian of the Nation International, a non -profit youth leadership capital development organization and other organizations in and outside Nigeria.

I have interests in International business management, contributing to the educational sector in Africa and mentoring young women. ROLE MODEL OF THE WEEK – RUDY MENGESHA – HUMAN RIGHTS ACTIVIST BASED IN SWEDEN

Rudy Mengesha is 24 years old of Ghanaian and Ethiopian heritage but was born and raised in Kristianstad, Sweden.

She is a human rights defender and activist with a Master’s degree in International Relations and a B.A in Human Rights law.

She is dedicated to issues concerning Africa and particularly Ghana, which led her towards gaining a scholarship from SIDA to travel to Ghana and collect data for her thesis about the democratic process there.

Rudy also completed a year as a communication officer for the Swedish International Development and Co-operation Agency (SIDA).

Furthermore, she has been involved in several human rights and anti-racist organizations that work to prevent racism and afrophobia in Sweden. Currently she is a board member of the organization Fight Racism Now.

Rudy’s contributions have been instrumental in the building of opinion and political pressure that led to the first government commissioned report on afrophobia in Sweden and the establishment of an African empowerment and information center in the City of Malmö (which is still an ongoing process).

In 2014/2015 she made a contribution to the Swedish anthology ”Inte en främling – 41 berättelser om identitet och mångfald ” (directly translated in English: Not a stranger – 41 stories about identity and diversity). As the title states, the book contains 41 stories from Swedish politicians, celebrities and other profiles about their experiences of racism and alienation in Sweden.

Currently she is working at the culture department of Malmö city, as a co- ordinator for gender.equality and anti-discrimination.

She believes that change should come from different angles, one could be through political pressure and building opinion. Another way is also to work your way within the system. Thus, she is also engaged in politics as a local politician for the Left party.
