IN MEMORY OF ALTON STERLING (TRIBUTE POEM) BY TONY TOKUNBO ETEKA FERNANDEZ

IN MEMORY OF ALTON STERLING (TRIBUTE POEM) BY TONY TOKUNBO  FERNANDEZ

From the break of dawn,

The morn unfolds with a dirge of new tears,

The “Gentle Giant” has gone,

Silenced . . .

By the developed dogs of of and underdeveloped world,

Bleak music fills the air with repeated gunshots,

Another day, Same old story

From the break of dawn,

The Eyes of justice turns blind to the rhythm of old and new voices,

And the hopes of brothers are shattered, by the fresh tones of more triggers,

Yet the uncivil eyes of a civil world just watch,

proclaiming false poetry of first world notions

lost in the grades of 5th world motions

From the break of dawn……..

We shall rise ..

aimed with hope,

blessed with love

And a brand new song

“IDP CAMP” BY ADEDAYO AGARAU( WINNER OF THE TONY TOKUNBO FERNANDEZ INTERNATIONAL POETRY COMPETITION 2015

IDP CAMP – BY ADEDAYO AGARAU

i am building a new home
in a tent of white fossils.
my children have the moon
in their navels and the sun
is a button blown in their bellies.

to make love with my wife
i let the crickets wake,
darling is a loud moaner
and I dig for the fruit of her lips.

we are building a new home
in a dark dark room,
no lantern to forecast
when peace shall come,

just a lonely moon
watching another soldier fall,
no lantern!
