I have always been interested in introducing African legends and history to our children. Many of us have gradually lost touch with culture. Also, there are many kids around the world curious to learn about Africa’s diverse and unique cultures but find little simple material. We are all familiar with Western myths and legends- Robin Hood, Paul Bunyan, Hercules etc. but how many of our youth are familiar with our own indigenous legends such as Bayajidda, Queen Amina and Emotan? If we are not familiar with our own, how can we make the world aware of them?

‘Bayajidda: An African Legend’ is a comic adaptation of a popular Nigerian legend on the progenitor of the Hausa people. The story showcases chivalry, compassion and an indomitable spirit of adventure laced with humour, done in a culturally sensitive manner. It also promotes values that are much needed in our world today. This 46-page graphic novel is meant for children of all ages and the young at heart still bold enough to re-live their youth 🙂

Nomzamo Winifred Madikizela-Mandela‚ a stalwart in the fight against apartheid‚ has died at the age of 81.

Madikizela-Mandela passed away at the Netcare Milpark Hospital in Johannesburg on Monday.

Mandela family spokesman‚ Victor Dlamini‚ said: “She died after a long illness‚ for which she had been in and out of hospital since the start of the year. She succumbed peacefully in the early hours of Monday afternoon surrounded by her family and loved ones

Born in Bizana in the Eastern Cape in 1936‚ she moved to Johannesburg to study social work after matriculating.

She met lawyer and anti-apartheid activist Nelson Mandela in 1957 and they were married a year later. They had two children together.

However‚ her marriage life with Mandela was short-lived‚ as he was arrested in 1963 and sentenced to life imprisonment for treason. Mandela was eventually released in 1990.

During Mandela’s time in prison‚ Madikizela-Mandela was not spared the reach of the apartheid forces. She was placed under house arrest and at one time banished to Brandfort‚ a town in the Free State.

In 1969‚ Madikizela-Mandela became one of the first detainees under Section 6 of the notorious Terrorism Act of 1967. She was detained for 18 months in solitary confinement in a condemned cell at Pretoria Central Prison before being charged under the Suppression of Communism Act of 1950.

Bio:   Chinua Ezenwa-Ohaeto (@ChinuaEzenwa) is from Owerre Nkwo-orji in Nkwerre, Imo state, and a lover of literature. He has won the Association Of Nigerian Author’s Literary Award for Mazariyya Ana Teen Poetry Prize, 2009; Speak to the Heart Inc. Poetry Competition, 2016. He became a runner-up in Etisalat Prize for Literature, Flash fiction, 2014 with I Saved My Marriage. Recently, he won the Castello di Duino Poesia Prize for an unpublished poem, 2018. And some of his works have appeared in Lunaris Review, AFREADA, Kalahari Review, Praxismagazine and Elsewhere.

World champion Anthony Joshua won the first heavyweight unification bout held on British soil as he gained a unanimous points verdict against Joseph Parker at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium.

British star Joshua added the WBO belt to the WBA and IBF belts he already holds, but he was taken the distance for the first time in his professional career.

Due to our previous successful events, this events aims to attract more than 9000 individuals and to provide a platform for Kenyans and friends of Kenya to network professionally, Spiritually, Economically and Socially. We will strive to be in line with the role of Ministry of Tourism as a promotional organization to increase foreign tourist arrivals and stimulate the growth of local trade and tourism. We will also provide a platform for our youths to showcase their talents in sports, beauty, Arts, culture, fashion design and entrepreneurship in line with government’s manifesto.
