I am Abimbola Lameed, a product of Psychology, mixed with communication. Beguiled with entertainment from birth, I knew what I was destined to do in life when in 2001, I ventured into Theatre practice. Subsequently, after an all round adventure in academics and Media, comes up an astonishing career which started with Radio Nigeria, Amuludun FM 99.1 Ibadan, Oyo state; waking listeners up with morning motivational talks to start the day, as well as other air waves rocking programmes on the channel.
The influx of private Radios in Ibadan pitched my tent with another brand, Petals FM 102.3 where I barely spent a year before what I know how to do best attracted my current employers, 32FM 94.9 Ibadan.
My current areas of specialization on air are:
Sports presentation/Commentary/analyses/Bet preview. Not to forget newscasting and radio drama production. I’m a winner and nominee in various categories of Awards across Nigeria in my area of specialisation. My style is my strength for the past nine years of broadcasting
A BIG THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR BIRTHDAY MESSGES, I LOVE EACH AND EVERY ONE OF YOU – I FEEL BLESSED TO BE 51.
Each day in Life is a gift embraced with the stories of untold manifestations.
There is something beautiful about waking up each morning and breathing within the corners of Gods living space. There is something beautiful about absorbing the gift of each second and feeding from the silence of new energy
Today is another opportunity FOR YOU to grow, to learn, to make mistakes, to confront your fears and to go the extra mile in embracing the PURPOSE IN YOUR CALLING.
Today is an opportunity for me to say a BIG THANK YOU FOR All YOUR BIRTHDAY MESSAGES , and to remind you all that I LOVE YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART.
I AM 51 TODAY, AND I am grateful.
Life has taught me that the spirit of gratitude creates room for more blessings and that the story of happiness starts from within.
I have to be grateful because each day gives me a new opportunity to reflect, grow, aspire, praise and take action.
I have to be grateful because there were times where I nearly lost my life and it took foresight, faith and wisdom to look beyond the raw storms – THAT’S A STORY FOR ANOTHER DAY.
In recent years there are THREE SIMPLE LESSONS that I have learnt that have shaped the paths of my calling
1 .BE YOURSELF – As simple as this sounds, it something a lot of people still struggle with. The truth is that there is nothing as profound as projecting the purpose of your inner voice and BEING comfortable in your own skin, So what are you waiting for? Show the world who you really are, for the world is waiting for you to share your story.
2. FOLLOW YOUR HEART – If it feels right and your intuition speaks volumes repeatedly, it probably is right. If you become deeply overwhelmed with with thoughts and a deep urge to action on something that your deeply passionate about or something you truly believe in – THEN FOLLOW YOUR HEART
3. ONE OF THE SIMPLE SECRETS TO SUCCESS STORIES IS THAT IT OFTEN TAKES LIMITED RESOURCES TO MAKE GREAT THINGS HAPPEN
I am still on a journey, (blessed in spirit but also filled with imperfections ) and God has given me another chance to grow. I pray that I will be hungry and humble enough to feed from the lessons that unfold each day –
I know that 2020 has not been a particularly great year so far, for most people , who would have thought that the dreadful corona would knock on our doors unexpectedly and haunt our minds with shades of uncertainty.
However, I would like to reassure you that even dark moments are disguised with a range of blessings and our attitude, our faith, our mindset and our outlook have the energy to feed the present moment with something overwhelming beyond any measure of distraction.
IF THERE IS ANYTHING YOU HAVE ALWAYS WANTED TO DO- NOW IS THE TIME TO DO IT.
DURING THE LOCKDOWN PERIOD
1 I have been able to Publish My third book (With limited resources)
2. I have been able to complete five courses that have enhanced my world with more shades of new knowledge (I am also currently studying at two colleges – The Shipley college in West Yorkshire and The North Warwickshire College in the Midlands )
3. I have been able to create new networks in the city of CARLISLE and the city of LANCASTER. I have also been able to create new networks in THE LAKE DISTRICTS.
4. BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY, I have been able to appreciate the fact even in the darkest moments of CONVID , LIFE is still filled with an abundance of blessings when we are able to REFLECT, APPRECIATE SIMPLE MOMENTS and REALISE OUR CALLING AND OUR PURPOSE (AND THAT SOMETIMES, IT’S THE REALLY SIMPLE THINGS THAT REALLY MATTER)
ITS GREAT TO BE PART OF THE JOURNEY OF LIFE, THANK YOU AGAIN FOR ALL OYUR BIRTHDAY MESSAGES

Ekene is a development journalist, Tedx speaker, Media trainer, and tech enthusiast. He works with the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, (Radio Nigeria), Coalcity 92.9 FM Enugu while volunteering for youth organizations like Young African Leaders Initiative(YALI) to champion tackle societal ills. He has a track record in development journalism with major impacts in fact-checking, ending female genital mutilation and girl child advocacy.
He is that media personality that is using the media as a tool to mediate, advocate and push for ideas and conversations. Over the years he has invested a lot of time in media development thereby helping a lot of journalists define their niche, build their brand and equip them with skills for the 21st Century media ecosystem.
Ekene’s published articles are in over 20 newspapers, online blogs and news sites and he was responsible for designing and implementing media programme plans to deliver the Enugu state government’s project goals on Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) from 2012 -2014. He currently blogs on Radio Nigeria Enugu Website under Lounge-360. Most of his works can be found here https://muckrack.com/ekeneodigwe
One of his most precious moments as a journalist will be in 2015 during the Nimbo farmers-herders clash in Uzouwani LGA of Enugu State, he witnessed how stories were purported, sensationalized, weaponized and used to instigate another set of civil unrest. Reporters and the political class used that to further their agenda because people were media illiterate and gullible.
To save a little town from the brink of destruction started by fake news and hate speech Ekene initiated a programme called “Situation report” at Radio Nigeria 96.7 Voice FM Nsukka which was his station at the time, the concept was beyond giving the people a voice to report and share things, it was an open practice to fact-check what they hear, see and report. He had a mantra: see something, verify something, say something; then he as the radio personality will do something. There was a dedicated line and it does not matter the time, just call.
They started engaging the authorities and sieving information received all around. That programme saved a lot of lives, cleared some misinformation and corrected misrepresentation and underrepresentation of issues. That was also the first time he was involved in Fact-checking in as much as he didn’t know the proper term for it then. He knew that the audience shouldn’t be fed with unverifiable news.
Presently, Ekene is rounding off a certification in Social Media in Public Relations from the National University of Singapore and holds an expert certification in Information Technology and Cyber Law from India, Digital footprint from the University of Edinburgh, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) implementation from the University of Copenhagen.
The most recent project he was involved with was the Training of Southeast Journalists on Fact-checking and telling Impactful stories.
So as journalists the bulk of public enlightenment lies with them, but what happens if these journalists don’t know how much power they wield or are not equipped to utilize this power? Across the full spectrum of development issues, and the full range of communication, public engagement and media strategies, ill-founded rumours and misinformation are a major problem. Using COVID-19 as a very current example: How can journalists best respond? Which strategies could be adopted? Nigeria is a multi-diverse, religious and political country and with the advent of social media, news dissemination and the cycle has changed, everyone is a citizen journalist, all of these were part of why he decided since he can’t stop a moving train, he can at least lay a better track for it. Therefore, with the help of International Press Centre Lagos and funding from European Union, US Consulate Lagos and Radio Nigeria Enugu Zonal Station he was able to move around 5 southeast states and 6 cities training journalists. The impact of that training can be accessed here https://www.docdroid.net/w0VtxGp/pre-and-post-training-survey-on-fact-checking-in-journalism-1-pptx#?secret=5lbH1Ta9VJ
Ekene is the winner ofRadio Personality of the Year 2016, On-Air Personality of the year 2017 and YALI Leadership Award, 2018.
He enjoys listening to Chike’s song “Watching over me” and he is open to working with anyone on any project, even as a guest contributor.
