A writer, poet and learning and development specialist, Nairobi is a versatile communicator and facilitator with a rare ability to challenge and entertain professional and artistic audiences.
When asked to describe herself and what she does Nairobi often quotes Chaka Khan’s classic ‘I’m Every Woman – It’s All in Me!’ Refusing to be typecast as just a poet or a trainer she says she simply likes to write, share and help others.
With over 30 years of experience as a learning and development specialist Nairobi’s craft began with management and training design for senior leadership, mentoring and coaching. She is an Institute of Leadership and Management Qualified Executive Coach and Mentor, with a Masters degree in training and performance management. Nairobi also specialises in psychosocial (or personal) coaching as an integral part of leadership, business and career coaching for people who may have experienced disadvantage within their organisations, to build their confidence and enhance self-esteem. Alongside this, her sound Equalities background has also seen her work on national government projects to improve underrepresentation of groups with protected characteristics.
Inspired by her professional and personal life experiences Nairobi further developed her craft to include: writing, poetry, event hosting and film making
WRITER
A published academic and creative writer, Nairobi has produced several publications – most notably her academically endorsed book ‘Bayonets, Mangoes And Beads’ representing the lost African and Diasporic voices of WWI and WWII through poetry. A prolific writer, Nairobi has also written a series of 5 original shows entitled ‘An Evening with Nairobi…’ where she explores various themes using different styles of poetry and performs these herself. Currently, she holds the following positions: BBC Regional Poet, Poet in Residence for The Windrush Foundation, and Poet in Residence for The Equiano Society.

Nairobi is a dynamic poet performing different styles of poetry from traditional rhyme to colourful blank verse in patois. She has had the privilege of writing and performing moving pieces for Baroness Doreen Lawrence, Carmen Munroe MBE, Lord Ouseley, Baroness Howells, and Mayor of London Sadiq Khan. She has featured as a poet in the documentary film ‘Looking for Love’ by award winning film director and producer, Menelik Shabazz. Nairobi also worked with award winning film-maker and director Souleyman Garcia to produce 3 short films showcasing her poetry.

About two years ago, I enrolled in an Efik class with the hope of learning the Efik Language. I realized several issues my Efik teacher faced when teaching Efik. For starters, the textbook we used was very old and colourless. Learning Efik from my tutor was a completely different experience from what I experienced when learning French in secondary school.
The issues which face the teaching of Efik in present times are numerous. I sought to solve this problem and for over a year, I recruited the aid of the best minds in the kingdom to produce a 21st century textbook
.This book which comes in three volumes; Learn Efik 1; Learn Efik 2 and Learn Efik 3 is aimed at eliminating all obstacles to the reading, writing and comprehension of the Efik Language. It is intended for students at the Primary and Junior secondary levels as well as those interested in learning the Efik Language.
The dual use of English and Efik is deliberate as research shows that students perform better when their L1 (primary language) is used as the mode of instruction in learning a new language. Interactive with online audio tracks, games, rhymes, songs, fun facts, lots of exercises and colourful images, this text modernises the way the Efik language is being taught and therefore, it is my hope that it captivates the young minds and the young at heart.
Today, I present the Learn Efik series 1 & 2.I’m grateful to all those who made these books possible. First and foremost: Abasi Ibom Enyong who sent his divine inspiration to me every morning

Desmond Ovbiagele worked in investment banking for over a decade before exiting to pursue a passion for movie production. He wrote, produced and co-directed his debut feature film, Render to Caesar, which was selected to screen in official competition at FESPACO, Africa’s largest film festival, in 2015, as well as at the Pan African Film Festival in Los Angeles. It also received awards for Best Screenplay at the Nollywood Movies Awards and Best of Nollywood (BON) Awards respectively, in addition to the award for Best International Feature Film at the Nile Diaspora International Film Festival in Kampala, Uganda. The Milkmaid, which he also wrote, produced and directed, is his second feature film, winning five Africa Movie Academy Awards in December 2020, including for Best Film.
In December 2020, the Nigerian Official Selection Committee announced The Milkmaid as the country’s official selection for the
93rd Academy Awards in the category of Best International Feature Film.
