Roger Okewole is a Civil Engineer and the Visionary of 9ja Pop Art. He is based in New Jersey, USA.
He will be a guest on THE TONY TOKUNBO FERNANDEZ SHOW this month- WATCH THIS SPACE. He will be our first guest of the year. This is a show you cannot afford to miss with Roger Okewole
INFORMATION ABOUT ROGER CAN BE FOUND BELOW
I am Roger Okewole and 9ja Pop Art is a peek into my imagination!
INSPIRATIONS: More than Dali, Rembrandt, Da Vinci, Michelangelo and Picasso, Roy Lichtenstein is my main artistic inspiration. I couldn’t have been older than eight when Mom was showing me Lichtenstein’s works in World Book Encyclopedia.
BEGINNINGS: My parents bought a few of those thick coffee table art books with photos of the great paintings by Old Masters, alongside Greek and Roman sculptures. I was studying anatomy and perspective from those books from a very early age. My folks also bought me every age-appropriate comic book they could find, which truly unlocked my imagination.
I first exhibited in a gallery when I was about 11 years old. I was designing costumes and banners for carnivals in Nigeria when I was in my early teens. I was 16 when I got my first graphics job with an advertising agency in Lagos.
I worked as a graphic artist while at college in Nigeria and the USA. I did all this without a single day in art school. My folks insisted I follow the “responsible eldest son” path and I got a Civil Engineering degree and an MBA.
Then things changed…After about a 10-year hiatus spent climbing the corporate ladder, I formed 9ja Pop Art to bring my artistic side back to life.
MEDIA: I mostly use pencils, inks, watercolor pencils and computer graphics; I like to mix it up and my creative impulses tend to go in very different directions. The only thing I never do is photobashing
I hope you enjoy the ride as much as I have!!!
My art business has been designated as a “Trusted Art Seller” with The Art Storefronts Organization, which means you can shop with confidence, and know that I stand behind the quality and value of my products.

Despite of being called reggae festival, Uprising is far from being monothematic. During two days, number of genres ranging from reggae, dancehall, ska, latino or hiphop to dub, dubstep, ragga-jungle & dnb is presented on four main stages and number of smaller ones. And it’s not only about music. It’s a lifestyle and there is a plethora of various leisure activities and nonmusical program. Sport turnaments, dancehall and capoeira workshop, yoga & sound healing sessions or discussions, stand-ups, short movies and creative workshops. Outdoor street art exhibitions and exotic cuisine will please your eyes and stomachs. One of the biggest advantages of Zlaté piesky location is natural lake with its offer of boat and water bikes rental and wakeboarding tow.
Organisers think of the youngest fans too. Therefore, parents and families will find special Kid’s Zone with special programming and activities for children in the festival area.
Uprising Festival is commemorating important historic event, Slovak National Uprising, with its name and a date.
This couple is Asase Yaa and Nyame the married deities of the Bono people of Ghana and Cote D’Ivoire..Nyame was worshipped as the sky god and creator of the universe. He was seen as omniscient and omnipresent..
Asase Yaa was worshipped as the earth goddess of fertility, the upholder of truth, and the creator goddess who came to fetch Bono people’s souls to the otherworld at the time of death. She was credited as being the nurturer of the earth and was considered to provide sustenance for all.
She was the mother of Anansi the trickster spider god. Just as with the fables of Anansi, worship of Asase Yaa travelled with slaves to the plantations of #Jamaica..Her “Adinkra” symbol is mounted on her crown..With this piece I tried to show the emotional bond between the couple while making them both as elemental as possible.
They might be very powerful deities, but here it’s just a guy whispering a (probably raunchy) joke to his girl…..
