Senegal manager Aliou Cisse says he is “certain” an African team will eventually win the World Cup.

Cisse’s side were the only team from the continent to win in the opening round of fixtures at Russia 2018, with the other four losing.

No African side has ever reached the World Cup semi-finals, and the continent has produced only three quarter-finalists.

“Africa is full of quality and we’re on the way,” said Cisse.

“It’s a bit more complicated in our countries. We face realities that are not there in other continents.

“But we fully trust our football, we have no hang-ups.”

While Senegal beat Poland 2-1, Egypt and Morocco could be eliminated inside the first week, while Nigeria and Tunisia lost their opening encounters.

Former Portsmouth midfielder Cisse, 42, believes “it’s a bit too early to say” why African sides have had a difficult start to the tournament.

“I’m certain that one day an African team, an African country, will win the World Cup,” he added.

About Kenneth Gbandi

I hold a Master’s Degree in Peace Research and Conflict Mediation, with focus on dialogue based solutions in stress afflicted communities, conflict mitigation, integration and the rights of demographic minorities. I have served in Hamburg Senate’s Foreigners Advisory council, representing Africa, and was later elected Chairman of the Committee on Anti-Discrimination. I currently run one of the biggest African – European Media Network in Germany & German speaking areas. I am the director of the African-German Information Center AGiC, a social business outfit responsible for one of the Federal German Government programs for recognition of migrant’s educational qualifications (Africa) and the empowerment of Nigerians and African citizens in Germany. I currently coordinate the activities for Germany & continental Europe for Nigerian Fallen Heroes project, an initiative of Nigeria Legion in partnership with the Ministry of Defence Abuja. The Project aims to rally support from Nigerian Diaspora community for our Fallen Heroes. Since 2015 I am a member of the German-Africa communication concept committee of German Foreign Affairs, Africa division, aimed at analyzing the causes of African influx into Europe, its consequences and possible solutions.  I have founded and co-founded many Initiatives in Germany, including Nigerian Football Club Germany, African Football Festival Germany, Miss Africa Germany, Miss Nigeria Germany and African Living Legend Award Germany. I am also currently the Head of Media Commission, African Union African Diaspora Sixth Region (AUADS) Germany.

Biography

Goodness Olanrewaju Ayoola is a poet and teacher of English. His poetry has appeared in poetry journals and anthologies. Few of his poems have garnered awards and translated into Assemese. He is currently an International Director of  the World Union of Poets and was one of the judges for the 2016 Green Authors Prize (GAP) sponsored by  Words Rhymes and Rhythms. He is the author of ‘Meditations’, a collection of poems. He has an NCE in English and Yoruba languages and a B.A (ed) in English.

Nigeria Diaspora Global Development Conference 2018, London, the UK, was part of the successful outcome of the NIDOE orientation and Leadership Retreat in Hamburg, Germany, which took place from Friday 17th Feb. to 18th Feb. 2017. We are still grateful to all distinguished invited guests and members that contributed to the success of that retreat, especially Hon. Rita Orji, the Chairman House Committee on Diaspora Affairs who gave the keynote address and set the tone for the retreat and Barrister Ekpo Nta, Fr. Chairman, Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) who graciously gave a stimulating presentations on the issues of fight against corruption, the international rating of Nigerian on fight against corruption and the role of the Diaspora.
