Professor Rotimi Ayodele Kayode JAIYESIMI
Professor Rotimi Jaiyesimi graduated from the University of Ibadan Medical School in 1978. He came to the British Isles in 1985 in pursuit of further professional development. He has worked in Nigeria, Ireland, Saudi Arabia and the United Kingdom. He was appointed Consultant in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in the UK in 1994. He is a Fellow of the West African College of Surgeons and of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists. Professor Jaiyesimi holds a Masters degree in Business Administration and a Mastersdegree in Medical Law.
He is currently the Associate Medical Director for Patient Safety at BTUH, Visiting Professor at the Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Sunderland and the Faculty of Law, University of Ibadan. A member of the Institute of Directors (IoD), he is Chairman of the Board of Management at Brighthope Specialist Hospitals, Lagos, Nigeria and the Secretary of the Medical Association of Nigerians Across Great Britain (MANSAG).
He is passionate about the safety of patients, developing the younger generation by teaching and leading by example. As Visiting Professor to the University OF Ibadan Law Faculty, he had delivered lectures to postgraduate students and staff on the legal issues in clinical practice and on the sustainable development goals. He has been a member of faculty of many training missions to Abuja, Abeokuta, Ibadan, Sagamu and Tanzania. He is a public speaker and has appeared in print and visual media.
Professor Jaiyesimi is keen to see the sharing of knowledge between Nigerian health care professionals in the diaspora and colleagues in Nigeria. This is to reverse the brain drain and to facilitate the exchange of knowledge and skills. He was the Chairman of the Presidential Initiative on Medical Excellence (PRIME) and the Presidential Initiative on DiasporanEngagement (PRIDE) between April 2016 and October 2017. He made contributions to the Federal Republic of Nigeria National Policy on Diaspora Matters in December 2016 and was a participant at the multi-stakeholder Validation Seminar on the National Policy on Diaspora Matters at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Abuja in December 2016.

He has served with the General Medical Council, the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, and the National Institute for Health Research. Professor Jaiyesimi has contributed to the advancement of medicine through his many publications and lectures delivered nationally and internationally.
He is a recipient of numerous awards including the Health Service Journal National Award for the development of an online, real-time mortality review tool (MARS) in 2014 and in 2015 was the Recipient of the NHS Health Education East of England Award for Quality in Education and Training, applauding innovation, excellence, leadership and impressive achievements. Other awards in 2015 include the first recipient of the MANSAG Recognition Award Plaque for contributions to training, mentoring and innovation and Winner, Patient Safety Poster of the Year Award, Health Education East of England Quality in Education and Training.
On 21 November 2015, Professor Jaiyesimi received the Creative African Legendary Award, recognising and rewarding excellence to individuals who have demonstrated and done extraordinarily and consistently over the years’ great works to enhance or impact the society for good. He received the Zenith Global Healthcare Special Recognition Award for excellence in healthcare and in February 2017 he was elected in Abuja, Nigeria as the ‘Karifest Man of the Year’ (2016).
Professor Rotimi Jaiyesimi is a transformation agent who brings with him a vast wealth of health policy, clinical and senior management experience. His hobbies include poetry, photography and philately. He is a motivational and public speaker. He is a trained mentor and undertakes one–to-one coaching and mentoring. He has been described by his peers as an asset to the United Kingdom National Health Service (NHS).
