THE FATE WE FACE” – written by Mesioye Johnson

On our shadows, shady skulls always sit
With bald plans,shaggy promises,blind might,
To spit sick words for thumbs not to be fit
In deciding morrow despite now’s fright.

Our dreams they hide in holy regalia
Feeding them all with fiery sacraments,
Spreading death on lean hope like bacteria
And our hearts filled with bombing fulfillments.

Our brothers’ bone now fills up road’s potholes
We needed water, mums’ blood beats supply,
After the soil had abundance in holes-
Plant’s sustenance if rain doesn’t comply.

Check the gap between riches and stitches
And you will see it’s as wide as a sea,
Morrow’s leaders now dwellers in ditches
Licking untimely dusts death made us see.

Life and death made to meet at dagger’s drawn,
Injustice serves as the big battle field
Where gavel becomes still like dew at dawn,
Only active when pockets are refilled.

We called them wELDERS ’cause they melted dreams
With lies-coated furnace and mean bellows
Pumping their bags while we remain sans beams
For unborn,as born ones pant in hollows.

We see only dripping sweats sans rewards
But always flicked away with bitterness
On the nauseous sore we all nurse inwards
Hoping to see it heal not something less!

“THE FEMALE AS LIABILITY” BY GIFT AMUKOYO – OUR WRITER ON WOMEN ADVOCACY & YOUTH DEVELOPMENT

The Female as Liability Asset

“Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma – which is living with the results of other people’s thinking.

Don’t let the noise of others opinions drown out your own inner voice, and most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.” – Steve Jobs

Some females seek marriage as an escape route to boycott fending for their selves. They get the notion that once married, it would be the husband’s duty to provide all her needs irrespective of the spouse’s financial status whether buoyant or weak, with a waving idea that; no money, no love. Today, it is certain that most ladies are being accosted with questions like: Are you schooling? What do you do for a living? Where do you work? How many are you in your family? What position are you? What do your parents do for a living? And so forth, too much questions that have become a trend in most social media chats and physical contact by the male gender.

Without much ado about nothing, these only show inklings that the male mentality towards marital courtship is fast and vast changing, especially in Africa. No longer is the female more interested in the background and means of livelihood of her would be suitor, the men also want to know what the lady is contributing in wedlock; is it economic and financial support, or individual and family liability.

One thing some ladies have let elude them is; women have never been dependent on their spouse. In the days of old, the husband marries the wife in order to be loved and cared for, as well as to increase the stocks in his barn and household; with children and food provisions. The wife works on her husband’s farmland, and of which she may have her own special portion for cultivating vegetables.

The woman, man and probably their children included clear the bushes, till the soil, plant crops, and nurture them to harvest, preserve for the house and sell off the cash crops on market days. From time, woman has always worked zealously alongside man to make the home well enough.

Those have not changed in centuries after but have evolved from traditional to modern domestic support system. It is wise for prospective wife materials to bear in mind no man wants to be attached to a wholesome liability.

The measures to be taken to avert being just another mouth to feed and a body to clothe by your future husband is to get yourself acquainted with the real world. A world now turned into a global village, where women are amongst prominent personalities, entrepreneurs in the society, an era that has seen many great women holding offices the world over.

Where do you stand? You can stand anywhere; the key is getting yourself identified either by a profession or a vocation. Every human has been born with a talent; each individual has been cut for him or her destined calling.

Choose and align with whatever you like doing best. Go to school or an acquisition centre to emancipate your given skills and exercise every potential.

A male Physician courting a female Pharmacist may not be love at first sight alone but perhaps a calculated motive to hitch a suitable life partner for better financial base. Likewise a Barber that is dating a Hairdresser for keeps.

Analysing this couples, it is plausible they would live a comfortable lifestyle because in the right society where their services are often demanded, they

tend to make regular sales.

Gender wise, unemployment rate is higher for females than their male counterparts. Females face particularly strong challenges in entering the labour force due to early motherhood and lack of education. One reason for this is the belief by many youths that the prospects of getting lucrative jobs are higher in the urban cities. Many of these youths lack vocational education and technical skills which make them casualties in an increasingly competitive economy.

It has been revealed that more women are entering the labour market to pursue their careers. Due to improvement in female education, women are not only getting married later but also, are increasingly becoming more insistent on financial independence.

So ladies should be engrossed with entrepreneurship, prepare for you, an independent financial territory, before and after marriage. Do not sit back and relax on your spouse for money to buy match boxes for the kitchen, sanitary

towel for your monthly cycle and cookies for your kids. Learn a skill, get educated, be a support to your home and society today for a better future. Say

no to total liability, embrace part independence, and be inspired.

M.I.A – POETRY BY CLARISSA

From the minute you spoke I knew you were the One,
I knew I have always loved you, infinitely.
I know your love for me will protect us forever,
But they keep us apart.
They can’t keep us apart, we are the soul connection,
We can do this, together.
I need you to feel strong for me, feel complete.
I see you baby, you see everything in me,
Keep going, I want to see your face.
They fear you,
And they fear me.
We are what they fear but we don’t lead with fear,
We lead with love, love, love.
Our love is stronger than what the flesh provides.
You don’t need to be scared of me,
And I won’t be scared of you.
We can work it out, we know we can.
Remember, I will protect you,

You protect us.
You are my Captain and my King and I am your Queen.
We lead with love, love, love,
Together.
It’s time to show them who we are,
I need you now baby, come to me,
I hope you hear my heartbeat

POETRY WEDNESDAY WITH ADEDAYO AGARAU- THIS WEEKS FEATURE POET- OYEBODE KARIMOT

IN BETWEEN THE LINES

A POETRY WEDNESDAY WITH  ADEDAYO  ADEYEMI  AGARAU – WINNER OF TONY TOKUNBO FERNANDEZ INTERNATIONAL POETRY COMPETITION 2015

**********

I give you the beautiful Odebode karimot, an undergraduate of Law in the prestigious Obafemi Awolowo University,ile-ife. She is a poet who derives internal peace in conversing with her muse. She is the second of four children born and bred in the ancient city of Ibadan,Nigeria. She believe the world can be driven in the right direction with her pen.

THE GODS ARE DEAD
©Oyebode Karimot

The gods are dead
Or are they asleep?

Comb through the land
With horsewhip to wake the sleeping gods

Where was sango,
The one that emits fire like a welder’s iron
When fathers defile their daughters
In this very land and still we give to you
Fresh blood from our rams?

Has Osun gone on an errand
When mothers sell their bodies like Jezebel
And still you crave for white clothings
Which we offer without a twinkle of an eye?

Obatala has turn to an hawker?
If not, where was he
when brothers poison their palm wine
and smile as they dine themselves wines of dead flavours
but still;
your throat tingles at the holy wine we tithe?

Has Esu-laalu embark on a journey?
Why would that sturdy man
Refuse to dance to the rhythm of men with stone heart
And pierce their heart, flog their greedy backside
as they squeeze the heart of noble ones
Little man, remember:
You still lick our palm oil
And wallow in our palm wine

Or has Ogun suddenly turn deaf
as we wallow in anguish
screaming out the spirit of our soul
or will the iron man tell me
his ears has gone on errand
as the poor cries
in hunger and pain
while the rich trample upon them
like dirts
but still he sits to savour the blood
Of dogs we offer to him

all thou art dead!
they have refuse to hearken
to our cry
and we,
the descendants of Obalufon
have turn our backs to useless gods
or;
what is the use of a drummer
without a drum
a drum,
without a sound

we have turn
our backs to the gods
and lift our eyes
up to the sky
maybe another god
await us,
maybe!

PAMTENGO RADIO WINS BEST MEDIA CATEGORY AT THE MALAWI ACHIEVEMENTS AWARDS

By Ian Carter Phiri

UK based online radio Pamtengo won Best Media Award at the Second Edition of the Malawi Achievers’ Award organised by the Malawi Association UK (MAUK) which was held on Saturday, March 28, at the magnificent Athena Conference Hall in Leicester, United Kingdom.

Malawi Achievers’ Award is aimed at celebrating and recognising outstanding Malawian individuals and groups in the UK for their exceptional achievements and contributions to their respective community both in the diaspora and Malawi.

The prestigious event was hosted by the Malawi Association UK (MAUK) the mother body of all UK based Malawi Associations, a registered Charity itself that promotes the welfare and sense of belonging for all Malawians living in the UK.

Commenting upon the recognition, Chief Executive Officer of Pamtengo Radio, MC Steve Chijota said the award was a milestone and therefore a symbol of his organisation’s hard work and commitment to radio excellence, he said as he accepted the award

‘’We honour this recognition and acknowledge receipt of this most prestigious award in a very special way. A massive thanks to all our listeners for voting and believing in our dreams. And once again a big mention to the organisers of the Malawi Achievers for such a precious medal, said Chijota who fronts the exceptionally diverse and talented radio Djs and Presenters hailing from Malawi, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Botswana, Zambia, Namibia, Kenya, Uganda, Poland, Australia and Lithuania

Malawian Achievers’ Award also aims to recognise charitable organisations or groups and reward people that are making positive differences to the Malawian Community in the diaspora.

In its bid to realise its objectives, the Malawi Achievers had part of the proceeds from its ever edition of the Malawi Achievers’ Award, organised last year, donated to Malawi Health Care UK (Mahecas) Charity for a Cancer Project amounting to £1,000 according to Malawi Achievers’ Award PR Director, Thom Twee in a recent TV Chat Show with Pauline Long monitored on BEN TV.

Pamtengo Radio won its bid under the brackets of ‘a corporate or individuals with an outstanding record of achievement coupled with excellence in media whose extraordinary performance clearly shapes the Malawi Community positively’.

The Media Award for Pamtengo Radio is yet another successful achievement under its belt after winning the 2014 BEFFTA’S Best Radio of the year, yet another distinctly special award ceremony honouring the best showbiz and entertainment personalities in the black and ethnic community in the UK, USA, Canada, Caribbean, Africa and globally.

POETRY CORNER “THE AFRICA I KNOW” WRITTEN BY PETER NJOVU- A PASSIONATE POET FROM ZIMBABWE

‘The Africa I know’ Written by Peter Njovu

The Africa I know

Is a sanctuary of awe and wonders

A rainbow with plentiful colours

Where flowers blossoms with joy

And trees grow bigger buttress roots

The Africa I know

Is a woman with great charisma

Who bore Zulu pride and Naija power

Who bore Shona zeal and Nyanja fame

Longer and longer she reigns

The Africa I know

Is a gentleman in a black suit

Who seeks and finds respect

Like a lion he roars

And like the river Nile he flows

The Africa I know

Has it all and more

From the tasks of Ivory coast

To Kimberly and her diamonds

What more is there not to admire?

The Africa I know

Shouts from Kilimanjaro

Quenches his thirst from Lake Victoria

And smokes with no fire from Victoria falls

The Africa I know is more than just proud

-She is blessed
