“VERSES AND FLOWS” BY ADEDAYO AGARAU – FEATURED POETESS FOR THE WEEK- OLUWATOSIN KOLAWOLE

VERSES AND FLOWS

Welcome to Verses and Flows today, I am your host, Adedayo Adeyemi Agarau. – Winner of the Tony Tokunbo Fernandez International Poetry Competition for poets and Writers around the world

Today,I present to you Oluwatosin Faith kolawole hails from Ise-Ekiti, Ekiti state, Nigeria. A medical student in the American International University West Africa, Gambia. She has passion for writing and as a result of her love for creative writing, she has participated in several online and offline poetry competitions

OUR TALES ARE HUMAN by Oluwatosin Faith kolawole

‘Speak the truth and spare the lies’

‘Speak the lies and spare the truth’

Whichever way, the truth can no longer be sieved from our lies

Nor the lies from our truths We are drenched in deceit!

The footprints that once led us faded away long ago Leaving us to unending calamities

That sets disputes between and within races

Giving rise to sore hatreds and killings without pity

Etch my name on the plastered wall of our hypocrisy

And let it rot there Our act sucks!

And our laws are swimming in the pool of confusion

Have we forgotten we were all raised from dusts?

Or we’ve been blindfolded by the indecipherability

Of what we call truths and lies?

We now live on scripts written by unspecified beings, Submitting our loyalty

Either black or white A tanned skin or not A Philippine or a Nigerian From the Africa continent or Asia;

Privileged or not, We remain in one planet, Earth. And classed as ‘Homo sapiens’!

Let xenophobia be buried in fear’s grave

And we’d engrave on her obituary, the words:

‘We are Homo sapiens; we are one’ ©TeeFaith

POETRY CORNER- ALUTA (STRUGGLES) WRITTEN BY UTHMAN AHMADU

Your eyes
rain of
watery pains,

anchored
in solitude
and counting
ungainful gains,

you are crying
for mother earth
to open its womb,
engulf your sorrows,
then it will slowly wane,

the roof
of your eyes
leaks
now your pupils
unable to dodge
the rain,

chew some stones,
sip alkaline,
may you
be fine

why the
natures atmosphere
use your tears
for wine,

your joy
now locked
in a vale of
unknown,

i can
see a lark
singing
in the edge
of a mahogany
of your own

when was the
last day
you remembered
the dictionary
contains a word
called fun,

why is
there fogs
around you
that burns?

How many
movies turn
out real?
Or is there
any woman
whose dreams
come to past?

If there is
are you,
must you,
will you be the last?

Let me wake
mother earth
with my incantations
and ask her why,

why this angelic
creature
always bid for
night to come
so she would die?

Anon,
God gives
and forgives

and the imperfect
men gets
and forgets

I’d Run (STILL ON XENOPHOBIA) BY ADEDAYO AGARAU- WINNER OF TONY TOKUNBO FERNANDEZ INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION 2015

I’d Run

i.
When I got here,
air became fresher.

They’d call me to gather with them
Beneath the bones of dried trees
Under whose arm, the moon stare
at the ending moments of our daily toils.
They’d sing in foreign languages
I will dance in native steps
Trying to decipher the depth of their lines

They would call me to witness again
The savour of  their hale culture,
The carnival of topless virgins
Dancing in the river of puberty.
They’d laugh if I refuse to nail her back
On the dusty flesh of the naked soil
In the game of choice, they’d cheer if I shred
a strand of sweat.
I still would wonder who they were
But home will i call this, home.

ii.
I’d sit absentminded on the edge of thoughtless days
Playing indolent rhythms about writing home
Till i find comfort in their smiles–
The one that carved coated anguish on their faces.
I’d run back into their arms, longing
For the warmth from their horizon forgetting home
In this desert of cold waters.

iii.
But I’d remember home tonight
When the statesmen who promised me shelter
Chases my skull with diamond-tipped spears.
I’d run with fleeting feet to the walls built with fear
I’d run from the residual chaos, a sickness that falls
On the muscled ligaments of the home I found
Miles away from my native districts.
I’d remember I knew this place was strange
From the night my feet trod these streets.

I’d run from Xenophobia, tonight.

ROLE MODEL OF THE WEEK – MR ABBEY AKINOSHUN- PROSPECTIVE PARLIAMENTARY CANDIDATE, GREENWICH & WOOLWICH

Our Role Model  for this week is Mr Abbey Akinoshun –  prospective parliamentary candidate for the Green Party (Greenwich and Woolwich)

Mr Abbey Akinoshun was also a  Nigeria Centenary Awards UK Winner as  one of 100 most outstanding Nigerians to have lived in the UK.

He is a great community ambassador and role model setting the pace for the future

MR ABBEY AKINOSHUN

My name is Abbey (Abideen) Akinoshun, and I have lived in the Royal Borough of Greenwich for over 15 years with my family.

As a result, I have a good insight into the problems confronting our community. My children attend a local school, where I used to serve as a school governor.

I have been consulting in Employment Law and Regulatory Services in Woolwich for the past five years. Up till three years ago, I worked as a Clinical Service Manager with one of the NHS Foundation Trusts in London.

In 2006 I was elected by the majority of the registered nurses in England to represent them, in the Nursing and Midwifery Council [NMC], where I used my position and knowledge to influence major changes in the nursing profession and to improve quality of care to the wider public. Having spent over fourteen years in the NHS, I am fully aware of the stresses that the NHS is suffering from!

I also have a wealth of experience in politics, human rights, advocacy, race-relations, and community relations.

In short, I am a resident with a lot of experience, common sense and a passion to serve my local community.

Having been a Labour Party member for over 10 years, I left the party about 5 years ago because, sadly, I no longer saw it as a party to build a fairer society. I then joined the Green Party just over a year ago, because I saw a fast-growing political party which has a fully developed range of policies addressing social, economic and political issues in our society.

I am standing as your prospective candidate for the Green Party because I would like to have the opportunity to give a political voice to the thousands of ordinary citizens like me, living in the Borough of Greenwich.

“AFTER A LONG WALK TO FREEDOM” (STILL ON XENOPHOBIA) BY GIFT AMUKOYO – ONE OF OUR YOUNG AFRICAN WRITERS

After a Long Walk to Freedom

Man’s inhumanity to man is a day to day trivial of everyday life; it comes with the flaws of every society and it can be in form of scarce hateful speeches or meagre mean actions. Contrarily, the spill of blood that runs in same veins is an extraordinary anarchy set loose in one house with diverse rooms, a barbaric atrocity unto one skin colour, all Africans; one continent is a clear case of mental derangement. With these massacre that has been on-going for days it’s shuddering to say Africa may never be able to unite and set the stool for greater developments.

With such upheaval in South Africa, Nelson Mandela’s words rings sound prophecy; ‘’There is no easy way to freedom anywhere, and many of us will have to pass through the valley of the shadow of death again and again before we reach the mountain top of our desires’’ He added; to deny people their human rights is to challenge their humanity and for them to be free is not merely to cast off one’s chains, but to live in a way that respects and enhances the freedom of others, So South Africans why? Our human compassion binds us to one another, not in pity or patronizingly but as human beings who have learnt how to turn our common goals into hope for the future.

South Africans got independence but their mind, body and soul are still in chains, their will have been bandaged, dependent so much on a superior will. Their existence is so disillusioned, man was born free but in some ways he has been put in bondage. Africa, and South Africa needs to go through a deep mending, a fine furnace that heals the body and mind, looking at their situation, one can pathetically say they are losing it. South Africans need healing; I recommend a national guidance and counselling for the teenagers and youth. These people need liberation, the freedom to rule their world and existence. Their independence is a sorry excuse of monumental slavery.

When collective violence among youths springs up, yes youth, because the cutlasses are not being wielded by old frail men, the arson is not fuelled by the elders, but then most definitely there is a ring leader, and he is the elder that has instructed the youths to do such biddings. It can be in other forms of protest and rebellion as a response to a gap of expectations and achievement, but the youthful menace is so displaced and not justifiable at any length.

It is quite alarming and disheartening how youths are easily confused, steered towards the path of

violence ‘’Capital is like dead labour, which, vampire-like, lives only by sucking living labour, and lives the more, the more it sucks.’’ Karl Marx. Is killing really triggered by majority black foreigners owning shops and gaining employments in a competitive labour market? The reason for this blood shed is highly preposterous. Did they for one fleeting second think that if they are killing such Africans it would not be retaliated by the affected nations? There has to be another explanation for this, it has to be something not of the ordinary, in the 21st century it is too absurd for one to capture stupidity of this magnitude to be perpetrated by right thinking people of the society.

At this point a line should be drawn between traditional rule and democracy, the harm that the Zulu King Goodwill Zwelithini and Oba Rilwan Akiolu of Lagos have invoked; violence and suppressed hate is irrevocable, the difference here is the Oba’s wish came true therefore his thugs were stayed from throwing the perceived enemies of the statenon-indigenes into the lagoon. Now those are the traditional tiers, in terms of democracy what qualifies President Jacob Zuma ‘eldest son, Edward Zuma on his statement ‘’We need to be aware that as a country we are sitting on a ticking time bomb of them [foreigners] taking over the country’’ Edward added that ‘’I am not only talking about foreigners from African countries, I am talking about Asians and Europe as well. They are a real security threat to this country and the police can’t catch them because they can’t be traced because some of them do not have proper documentation’’ If the King can be excused base on an old man blabbing foolish monarchal superiority , should the same pass be given to Edward Zuma, a much younger educated, informed individual who more better string of thoughts and resolution is expected, one who is supposed to be the lighter to coming generations, to rewrite a more proudhistory of his time, but there he stated societal statistics void of sanity and intelligence in a budding South Africa has not healed, it is still licking its deep wound of an ugly past, Apartheid is a fresh picture they carry in their memory, guess what? Their descendants have to open books and read about the gruesome existence they helplessly endured for years, then after independence, they are so disillusioned to grab the meaning to life, the whole nation needs a psychologist every second to reitalize their self-respect too long overridden by their colonial superior, they sought to transfer their aggression on a levelled or those they see to be inferior in their environment.

To most South Africans, lynching, genocide, and arson are normal actions. According ‘AchilleMbembe in small talks with a South African driver, he asked him: ‘’why do they need to kill these ‘’foreigners’’ in this manner?’’. His response: ‘’because under Apartheid, fire was the only weaponwe Blacks had. We did not have ammunitions, guns, and their likes. With fire we could make petrol bombs and throw them at the enemy from a safe distance’’ Today there is no need to be as close as possible to their body which we set in flames or dissect, each blow opening a huge wound that can never be healed. Or if it is healed at all, it must leave on ‘’these foreigners’’ the kinds of scars thatcan never be erased’’ Succinctly put, South African scared need to be cleared off, If possible their history should be rewritten for the sakes of posterity. But with such stunned impossibility they are drowning from their ruined foundation, the continents must join hands and rebuild their capacity ofsound reasoning, instead of casting hate speech and dire retaliations, let’s show some love because they have been exposed to so much savagery, treated less human. South Africans wallow in disillusioned fantasy, we need to turn their bleak world into Africa’s tranquil sun rising, South Africa is in turmoil, Africa unite in love and understanding so that the shadows on their rubble would be infiltrated by mending lights. For the love of continent Africans arise in more care, only love and understanding can heal wounds and make scars fade internally.

YOUNG CRHYME (BASED IN GERMANY) – AN AFRICA4U ONLINE AWARD WINNER FOR AFRICANS IN EUROPE

In a time and age where hip hop – once the most innovative and ever-evolving music in both hemispheres – has reached a point where fans and connoisseurs alike have come to wonder what the future will hold for it, emerges Mendoza. Introducing a truly refreshing style and visionary approach – yet taking us back to the days where mesmerizing beats and advanced lyricism epitomized hip hop music -young is bound to take the world by storm.

Born in Germany but raised and grown up in various continents of the world, CRhyme’s game is what you might call genuinely international– an attribute that is remarkably reflected in his creativeness, versatility, poetic abilities and elaborate perspectives. CRhyme has dedicated his life to music since he was 15 and has ever since elevated his game steadfastly.

Blessed with a smooth voice, overpowering lyrical skills and an enthralling flow,CRhyme blends classic elements of Hip Hop, R’n’B andSoul with his own unique flavor, creating a truly eclectic style.

Whether it is the laid-back ballad that massages your soul, the club banger that makes you wanna get down or the sophisticated, lyrically-laden rap that makes you contemplate life.

Today, in a world where hustler clichés, repetitive sounds and lacking individuality dominate hip hop culture, CRhyme’s personality and his approach towards music clearly set him apart from most other artists:

For it is a style that puts an emphasis on the music instead of the artist; on individuality instead of uniformity; on creativeness instead of monotony. First and foremost, though, listening to CRhyme’s entices you to be someone that is truly “you” instead of coercing you into an image that does not reflect your personality.

Young CRhyme is by far not a new face in the Music Industry.1999 he bin on stage with Missy Elliot and had outstanding shows all over Germany. In 2006 CRhyme released his 1st solo Mixtape and sold 1500 copies of CRhyme City 2099. This showed him that he is on the right path and ready to aim for bigger things. He focused more on doing good

songs, than on his actual passion “the battle”.

His last major battle had been in 2006 against Keith Murray (DEF SQUAD).The whole session was unbeleaveable and outstanding.Young released in 2008 his 2nd Mixtape “CRhyme City 2.0”. This Mixtape took him to the next Level. He released his smashing Hit Mami Cant Dance. This brought him to different TV and Radio stations as well as the Newcomer Award (febr. 2010) on Radio Hamburg. Magazines and Newspapers like Backspin, Piste, Bravo Hip Hop , Oxmox and the Hamburger “Morgenpost” He worked with different artist such as Sonny Black, Prince (Dipset Eurostreetz) and Three 6 Mafia who are starting off by doing the Intro.

He wrote the official Anthem for the football team St. Pauli Buccaneers and even performed the Song live at the Stadium on season opening. On his last CD he already wrote a Boxing song for a European heavyweight champion Aldo Colliander .You could even see the event on different sports channels (e.g Eurosport) ,at the end of 2010 he released his 1st DVD including a Soundtrack.

2012 he released his 4th Mixtape Diary of a MADE MENdoza. He got major artists like Snoop Dogg and Dante Thomas on board. He wrote a song about Hennessy and even

shot a shortmovie (sponsored by Hennessy Black).

He just released his debut Album ONLY GOD CAN STOP ME (featuring Mopreme

Shakur , Hussein Fatal, Dante Thomas, Canibus and many more). His Song I MISS YOUR BROTHER feat. Mopreme Shakur is hitting the airwaves worldwide !

Young CRhyme ́s last major success was in Rome. He won the Nigerian European Music Award for best Hip Hop Act 2014 !

He is set to make his way through the Music game and to let world know that HipHop is way more than just bling bling or the average hood talk
