“OUR HUNTER IS DEAD” BY NANA ARHIN TSIWAH

This was the poem that won 1st place at the 2016 World Union of Poets-Poetry Prize of Africa

“1st place” (NANA ARHIN TSIWAH)

“Our Hunter is Dead”

I.

Bring back home
the broken calabash
bring, bring, bring
and don’t leave a piece

Our hunter sings
with his tongue cut,
he sings with a strange voice
the voice of hoots and giggles

He said, weevils
and crows had been
disturbing the corn-farm
which cried helplessly,

The trap has
caught the trap-setter
who told us of
what this shrine-mind

II.

Bring back home
the peeled pelt
of the deer harvester;
don’t leave the field with stench

Tell our women
who weep of
the fall
of butterflies,

That this war
is not of
their leaking tongues
and knotted kaba pieces

It is for
the mourning
bards of
Odikro’s hut

III.

The River goddess
of Okye
has rounded
her facial appeal

She sits with
her laps-over
muttering aged-proverbs
towards the forest

Our hunter dances
with his feet-backwards
backing away
where his groin germinated

Where are the gods
that nestled their
fingers through
the throats of immortality?

IV.

Bring back home
the sack that united
gun-powder with shells;
don’t leave snores for termites

O’ child
of the dwarf,
do not sleep
where snails lament

O’ son
of Oson,
do not walk
where an okra has wept

Lament not daughters
bewail not mothers
for this hunter shall re-unite
with the three paths . . .

IN MEMORY OF STEPHEN KESHI – BY TONY TOKUNBO ETEKA FERNANDEZ

IN MEMORY OF STEPHEN KESHI

Our land has just lost another son

Before the dawn of a fertile season

For nothing compares ..

To the triumph and the vision of the Greatest Eagle,

Wings strong enough to feed our minds with a sense of ownership,

Our Eagle was born to Win,

Kissing new soils from Togo to Mali

For who needs a foreign coach?

Who needs Golden robes , when our Green sparks are enough food  to train new minds

Nothing compares to the very best Eagle

Made in Nigeria, for the world to see

TRIBUTE TO MUHAMMED ALI, PART TWO – BY TONY TOKUNBO ETEKA FERNANDEZ

The Tears are still flowing,

Upon the counties of many new soils,

And although you are gone,

Leaving your legacy, before a new dawn,

Your spirit and soundtracks are still printed in the wind,

Fresh and pure, like the raw energy of new daffodils

Some might decide to Sing,

Some might decide to Mourn,

And though you have left the ring,

A brand new faith is born

A TRIBUTE TO THE GREATEST KING ,MUHAMMED ALI – BY TONY TOKUNBO ETEKA FERNANDEZ

A TRIBUTE TO THE GREATEST KING ,MUHAMMED ALI – BY TONY TOKUNBO FERNANDEZ

Last Night,

The tears of the land fed the wind with the verse of a new dirge,

Last night, The Greatest King left the world on a final trip,

leaving behind the treasures of righteous riddles and the sparks of new liberation

His flames of Poetry shone beyond the eyes of mankind,

into the worlds of many nations.

The Dawn is stained with a sea of tears,

All souls feel all alone,

Your reign shall live for many years,

For all that you have shown.

THANK YOU MESSAGE BY INI USANGA – COMMUNITY LEADER OF THE YEAR AT THE WOMEN4AFRICA AWARDS

An unexpected grace

Where do I start from, what can I say? I am short of words but my heart is overwhelmed with joy. I am grateful  for being here now in this moment, to my source and creator, to me, and to the many wonderful people who believe in me and support and encourage me. I am blessed and I am humbled and an exceedingly joyful.

I feel it is a great and special privilege to be a part of somebody’s story of change and transformation (positively). The people’s whose life I have touched through my work and experiences  have been memorable to say the least- … there is nothing more beautiful and fulfilling than that and  I am very thankful to be doing what I do. It is my passion and way of life.

I am a Family Violence Expert, Gender Based Violence Expert, Girl Child Activist, Trainer, Transformational and Inspirational speaker, a self-development coach, an entrepreneur, mentor, Critical Thinker, Idea Generator and philanthropist. I am  very privileged to be all these and more. But I have also survived things I wouldn’t even be able to imagine I survived.

I have been through very tough challenges in life but I am grateful I am still here standing stronger than ever. Now, I use my experience to support other children, young people and women who like me in the past feel ashamed of their ordeal and have given up hope and the joy of life.

I am determined to use my voice to advocate for the rights of other victims of abuse particularly family violence, and poverty. I want to see the protection of very young girls from sexual exploitation and harassment.

I want to leave a legacy and I want to contribute my share to our beautiful world. I have dedicated my time and resources to advocating for the rights and supporting victims, those at risk and survivors of family violence and poverty in Ireland and in some African countries including Nigeria, Kenya, DRC Congo.

Thankfully with the help of very supportive friends; I have raised funds to support children and women victims of family violence and donated several basic items like pads, education suppliers, body lotions, shower gels, tooth paste, food items, money, clothes to name a few to support very young girls, children, young people and women who experience family violence and poverty in Ireland and the aforementioned African countries.

I recently started a campaign against child marriage in Nigeria and have been joined by other child focused organisations like Inspire Kidz Club Ireland, Afro Euro Kidz and Family, Germany.

At the recently concluded Women4Africa Awards held in London on Saturday 21st May 2016; I was very honoured and I feel really humbled to have received with total humility a prestigious award recognizing my commitment, passion and determination in servicing and supporting victims of family violence and poverty and their communities. I am receipt of the Community Leader of the Year 2016. What an honour.

I am thankful to the people who nominated me, I am also thankful to  my  loyal team at “Love and care for People “who make our work really special and the organizers of the Women4Africa –  Sam and Tola Onigbanjo. It was a true honour to share the evening with legendary and mighty women.

Earlier in the year, I was winner of special recognition for my Contribution to Ending “Honour” Based Violence from a UK based charity “The Iranian and Kurdish Women’s Rights Organisation –IKWRO). I also received an Honoree award from Courage Global Frontier Ireland (Courage GF Ireland) for my contribution to humanity.

LET THE LIGHT WITHIN YOU SHINE GRACEFULLY, FOR ALL GOOD THINGS IN LIFE ARE POSSIBLE

A Malawian teenager taught himself how to build a windmill out of junk and bring power to his village. He later went on to build a second larger windmill to power up irrigation pumps. He was able to achieve all this just from books he read in the library.

This inspirational story teaches us that there is a bright light that shines within each and every one of us. Its beam has the energy, the strength and the wisdom to glow radiantly beyond what we see.

The story also teaches us that all Good things in Life are possible.

Let the light within you, shine beyond the limits of your comfort zone.

The journey starts when you feed your mind with the beauty of great thoughts and when you visualise the process of Self Belief.

No matter what you have gone through, No matter how bleak things might seem right now, always remember that ALL  GOOD THINGS ARE POSSIBLE, when you truly put your mind do it.

The Malawian teenager lives in each and every one of us
