AFLANG PROJECT PUBLISHES 1ST ENGLISH TO EFIK LANGUAGE DICTIONARY ONLINE AT LULU PRESS

The African Languages Project (The AFLANG Project) published the first English to Efik Language Dictionary online at Lulu Press. The Efik language is an endangered language with its people occupying parts of Cross River State, Nigeria. Authored by the renowned Efik historian, Efiong Ukpong Aye and building on the work of notable Efik language custodians, both missionaries and indigenes, A Learner’s Dictionary of the Efik Language is the most comprehensive and modern English to Efik dictionary and instruction book, featuring thousands of words and illustrative sentences, lessons on all aspects of Efik grammar including parts of speech and lots more. “SEMBENE ACROSS AFRICA” (A JOS FILM SCREENING) TAKES PLACE IN JOS, NIGERIA ON SUNDAY THE 10TH OF JUNE

In June 2017, the groundbreaking first edition of Sembene Across Africa became the biggest weekend ever for African cinema. The project partnered with African organizations to share the documentary SEMBENE through more than 130 free public screenings in 38 African nations, more than two million free streams and broadcast in 15 countries.

In 2018 over 100 screenings will be taking place.

The African Languages Project (The AFLANG Project) released the first Fante language learning app on Google Play Store. The Fante people make up the third largest subgroup of the Akan People of Ghana. Emphasising fun and engaging learning, the Learn Fante app contains 1000+ words/phrases for various occasions, a variety of games, information/history on the language, culture and people, a word of the day feature, and more. ROLE MODEL OF THE WEEK, ISMAEL LEA SOUTH (OF JAMAICAN PARENTAGE) BME COMMUNITY CONSULTANT

Ismael Lea South is the Director of The Salam Project, a BME youth and community initiative. This initiative promotes employment opportunities, accredited training, volunteer opportunities and positive UK Urban artistic expression. (Hip Hop, Reggae, Slam Poetry etc.)
Born and bred in north west London of Jamaican Caribbean parentage. Married to his Nubian Queen for over 10 years with 2 children. Even though he’s a Convert/Revert Muslim, he considers himself a Garveyite. With his social social enterprise, he works between the L.Brent, L.B Lambeth, Lozzells in Birmingham and Moss Side in Manchester. As a BME Community Consultant he works passionately in the Black (African & African Caribbean) community and The Muslim community.
He is the co-founder of The UK Black African & African Caribbean Awards

He mainly facilitates and advises many BME organisations on grassroots projects concerning extremism, radicalisation, BME youth unemployment and gang (gun & knife) crime. He goes into schools, prisons and youth clubs to facilitate workshops. His workshops touch on business start ups, employability skills, accessing funding for community projects, identity and Black British History. He knows that it is important to facilitate workshops on social enterprise start-ups, business start ups and Boys to Men (Black Boys rites of passage)

Through The Salam Project he works in partnership with various groups against gang crime, extremism/radicalisation (aimed towards Black African & African Caribbean Youths) and BME youth unemployment.

With The Faiths Forum For London he is the chief consultant on a pioneering project that promotes dialogue to get African/African Caribbean Pastors and Imams Working together to challenge gang crime (gun & knife) in communities. A regular contributor to BBC news, Sky News, LBC & Talk Radio.
