ALICIA HYNDMAN – Democratic Candidate for New York State Assembly, District 29

Alicia has a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the State University of New York at New Paltz, and a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from Framingham State College, MA and she is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated. She currently resides in Rosedale, Queens with her two lovely daughters Nia and Nyla.

Alicia Hyndman is an experienced investigator and administrator with over nineteen years experience in higher education.During her career, she has held many educational and health related positions: Counselor for the Brooklyn College Talent Search Program; Director of Minority Affairs at the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine of NYIT; Assistant with the New York State Education Department Office of Higher Education, and she currently serves as a Senior Professional Conduct Investigator with the New York State Education Department Office for Adult Continuing Education.

A long-time resident of South East Queens, Alicia grew up in Hollis & South Ozone Park and attended public schools, PS 34, IS 109, JHS 226 & John Adams HS. It is therefore, no surprise that she is passionate about serving and giving back to the community.

She has worked closely with community stakeholders as an active member of Community Board 12Q, serving as a member of the Board’s Education Committee, and also as a regular participant of the Rosedale Civic Association. For the past four years, Alicia has served as the President of the NYC Department of Education Community District Education Council 29 (CEC 29) representing the 33 elementary and middle schools in the district. As CEC 29 President, she works closely with principals, teachers, parents, public safety officials and community leaders to bring money and resources

The Entertainer  Taiwo Edwards popularly known  amongst friends as 100% Mr.T was born to  Nigerian parents, the entertainer with a German national currently runs a radio Late Night show on a German mainstream radio station 106,5 Radio Leinehertz Hannover Germany called Naija Groove.

Taiwo Edwards is a Musician by profession, Song writer, Singer, Music producer,  a comedian and a Businessman. Taiwo Edwards plays the keyboards, Bass guitar and few percussions.

The entertainer won  Community Entertainer  award on two occasions  for his show Naija Groove aimed at entertaining the African community in Germany.

Taiwo Edwards was born in southern Nigeria Oke – Odo in Ondo state , where he lived with his parents till the Family moved to midwestern part of Nigeria (Delta state) where the both parents originally are from , his parents finally settled down at Agbor Orogodo Boji Boji district, it was here he completed his Primary and secondary school education,

The entertainer went to Ika Grammer school Agbor, Delta state where it all really begun. Taiwo discovered his love for music and entertainment at an earlier age beginning with dancing and mimming to pop songs at age 5; his love for Music and show business became very obvious. During his secondary school life at Ika Grammer school, while still in Secodary class 2,  Taiwo had formed a Boy Group Band called The Young minister.

Taiwo  was a house hold name in his locality well know for his singing and dancing ability mimming to the tune of Michael Jackson,Curtis Blow, New Edition, Musical Youths, Gramdmaster Flash, Grandmaster melle mel, Furious Five, Gifted 4, Whodini and many more. Along with his friends and Band members Ernest Chibueze and Dennis Egwu Gilbert they made a lot of impact musically in there locality.

While still in school Taiwo Edwards registered in John Players sponsored Dancing Championship and won the local zonal championship, at that point Taiwo and the group became  local Heroes and Taiwo and the  group made a Demo tape but never found a sponsore untill the group´s break up in 1987. Before then the group was to record there first Lp in the United States of America after  then manage Benedict Osunbor of Radio Bendel got them connected.

After the split of the Band The young Minister Taiwo Edwards moved down to Benin City in Edo staste where he joind up the Textson Music Production a music production firm voice grooming and producing up coming musician giving them music instrument classes and voice trainning.

Here Taiwo  accquired a lot of musical know how and met and got to know friends then who are now Big names in the Nigerian Music industry till today. He learnt the act of music production and mastered some musical intsruments, Producing Master tapes and Demos tapes for up coming musicians Taiwo wrote songs published and unpublished for others .

Taiwo Edwards left Benin City for Ilesha where he worked with the likes of Young Ade an Ilesha Based Juju Musician, after a short holliday to home town Agbor where he had met with a formal music friend who was not in the previous band, they both with Taiwo ´s cousin formed a Band The Counterforce the group played reggae tune as side attraction before the Young Ade comes on stage.

This time Taiwo had learnt to infusse raggae music with juju beat and that is where he came up with the ideal to creat Afro juju reggae a style that The group counterforce recorded on there first album called diffrentsytle  Afro Juju Reggae on OHL Records. Like many other boy groups this one broke off which saw Taiwo completly moving to Lagos where he work with Actor Segun Alile whom he has once known in Benin city as a backup voice and percurssionist in several country clubs and occassions keeping himself up with that pay.

Taiwo did a lot of odd jobs to keep moving from Bus Driving to Bus Conductor car rent service to buying and selling to help raise fund for his solo album. The entertainers effort to make a solo album was severally interruppted by  the political instabillities in the country which saw Taiwo relocating to Germany in 1995 and withdrew from active show Business for a while .

In Germany Taiwo released his first solo album Out of the Dark ,

Taiwo´s show Business inpact was felt again when Taiwo Edwards 100%Mr.T run a Radio late Night Show called Nightshift on radio flora in Hannover Germany in the year 2004. The show was made to entertain Night workers and inspire them  while working, , among his live studio guest where Bobby Brown, Awilo Longumba South Africa  Music Legends – Hugh Masekela and many more.

Up till now Taiwo has being writing for many Newspapers in Germany like Hannoversche Allgemeine Zeitung, Schädelspalter Hannover, Bild Zeitung Hannover   and many others.

Taiwo has organised a lot of Music live concerts and interviewed  a lot of Nigeria artists and foreign artists.

Taiwo also interviews  personalities  who are not directly linked with the  music industry  but who´s got A Nigerian story to tell “The Made in Nigeria way”
